The instructions for the AT6011a say you must touch the cleaner to the spindle to remove static. I've watched quite a few videos on these cleaners and I'm curious why none of them seem to cover this step.

Most so-called antistatic carbon fibre brushes (and probably the one shown in the video too) are far from being antistatic. I put a record on the platter, clean the record with this brush and if I take the record off the platter immediately after there is static crackling. It is the brush that induces static. The aluminium handle is nothing more than a cover simply on the plastic case. The carbon fibres are not grounded thus.
