Turning a Mamiya RB67 into a Mamiya RZ67

I've been curious since I picked up my Mamiya RB67 how close I could get it to functioning like its newer counterpart, the Mamiya RZ67.

I recently had the opportunity to try just that, and am happy to be able to share the results with you!

I shot Ilford HP5 Plus in this video.

Big thank you to Cape Film Supply for lending me the Motorized RB67 Back and K/L lens - as well as the whole RZ67 kit. You can check them out here;

Oh that balancing act 😆 😂! I have a K/L 90 for my rb67, and honestly don’t feel any need to look at the rz. I like having mechanical cameras that are just always ready to go. This was an interesting comparison though. The side by side that I never knew I needed in my life. Thanks for the comedy as always Will!

The Queen reference at 5:28 didn't go unnoticed, glad i'm not the only one who does that.

Ok, I have an RB67 and a few RZ67's (please don't judge ) and a couple 645's, and yet I've enjoyed all your images. And yet when you had been moving the plants and that item fell on the floor. You sir made my day... please keep doing what you are doing.

Interesting investigation. I’ve wondered how compatible parts are between the two. Some day I’ll pick up some K/L lenses but I’m happy with my NB and C lenses for now. Probably won’t pick up a motorized back, though only advancing one lever is a luxury. Haha I think the updated mirror up mechanism on the K/L lenses is really the biggest (small) change that I’d love to have!

Now I'm on the hunt for all of those accessories to make my very one RBZ67. Rise up RB users!

Enjoyed this and really like your shots. With reference to the RZ cable release the silver screw in button is held in place by a black collar fastened to the camera by two tiny screws. These can work loose and should be checked occasionally. I had the holder pop off when out shooting and lost the T shaped contact breaker inside. The lens shutter will now only fire using a cable release. Fortunately the lens is the great 140 macro which I always use that way. Still looking for the spare part! PS You still need a bigger tripod (ebay and old)!
