Solidification crack susceptibility of 6005 aluminium using digital image correlation

This study elicited the impact of laser beam shaping on the formation of solidification cracking during remote laser welding of AA6005 aluminium. By manipulating the adjustable ring-mode beam, we successfully achieved centreline crack-free welds. Adding another dimension to the problem, the study used Digital Image Correlation (DIC) techniques to visualize the localized strains during cracking.
