Bread & butter pickles are my favorite too. Btw, the view of your pantry reminds me of the old country stores.

My grandmother used to make pickled watermelon rind. She lived through the depression so learned to use everything.

Lori your haircut looks so pretty. Of course, you're naturally pretty anyway. Love bread & butter pickles. Thanks for showing this.

I love bread & butter pickles on a turkey sandwich. Add some lettuce and mayo, and a side of wavy potato chips, and there's my favorite lunch.

Thank you so much Miss Lori!! 💕❤️🙏
My mama is 84 and her most favorite pickle in the entire world is bread and butters, so I can’t wait to make these for her!! I’ve never seen a bread and butter refrigerator recipe! So fun! I’m so excited to make this!!
I’d like to share my grannies refrigerator dills with everyone! I have this recipe written on a sheet of spiral notebook paper, that was written, by me, while I was sitting at my grannies kitchen table… I was newly married 32 years ago. It’s one of my most special possessions. It’s old and yellowed and has food splatters from hanging on my fridge (likely from various blender/mixing accidents 🤪) ….
It’s so so yummy….BUT…. If you eat them to early, they taste super salty (I’ve made that mistake before, so that’s why I’m saying this) wait about 7 days and they will be just amazing! You can add onion and garlic and any spices that you like! Here is the brine recipe…. (My granny also used to say, do not adjust the vinegar OR salt in the recipe…. It’s important to keep it as is for safety 👍) back in the early 1900’s they were called “larder dills”…. And they were never kept in the ice box, just the pantry…. I would not recommend we do that today though 💕
It’s also best if you keep the cukes whole, just slicing off the ends (my gran used to say it makes them bitter, if you don’t slice them off)
~Grandma Marie’s refrigerator dills~
~Several heads of fresh dill (or as much dried dill as you’d like) a head for each jar is perfect~
~garlic cloves to taste~
~sweet onion slices to taste~
~hot peppers or hot pepper flakes to taste~ (not in original recipe)
~any other spices you may enjoy~
~pickling cukes (or any kind really)~
~grape leaves can be used in each jar, if you don’t have Alum 💕~
~BRINE~
~6 cups of water
~2 cups of 5% white vinegar~
~1/2 cup canning OR kosher salt~
~1/2 tsp of alum~
Bring brine to boil, let cool
Put cukes, onions, garlic cloves, dill and spices in each jar. Pour cooled brine over each jar. Make sure all contents are covered with your brine. Let sit in the fridge for at least 7 days…. If you taste them before, they will taste way to salty! After a week in the fridge they are ready. They last for a very, very long time in the fridge! I have kept them in there for many, many months and we’ve always been fine! But use your best judgement about how long to keep them. I promise they won’t be around to wonder, you will love them and soon none will be left!!
They taste like a fresh deli dill, if you like that type of pickle! I also use this brine to pickle many things! Carrots, garlic, onions! The options are endless!! ❤️💕
I hope everyone that loves pickles, will give my grannies larder pickles a try….. they are so yummy!!
The recipe is from around mid 1850’s. It’s my great, great grandmas (also named Marie, I’m a 8th generation Marie, “Trina Marie”) Our family is from Austria, so from around that region. ❤️💕🙏❤️💕🙏
I love and miss you so much Gramma (what I used to call her) Marie! ❤️💕🙏
She would be SO EXCITED that I gave you all her recipe ❤️💕

Thank you Mrs. Lori! I need cucumber recipes! My husband planted a small row of cucumbers. I told him that won't be enough for anything. Now, I told him next year I won't say a word! We've made dill pickles, and gave cucumbers to everyone we know. And we are still picking cucumbers! Thank you Dear Lord for the harvest and thank you Mrs. Lori! I'll make these when I get home tomorrow!!
