Blizzard slams California's Sierra Nevada mountains

The biggest snowstorm of the season ended in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California overnight, with some of the highest snowfall totals at more than 7 feet.

Still, more snow is on the way for some. The Lake Tahoe region is under a winter storm warning until Tuesday night.

The travel warnings were in effect for days before the blizzard hit. The company's who insisted their drivers try and get over Donner Pass in it should have to pay their drivers hazard pay. I hope the drivers had supplies and plenty of fuel to stay warm in this mess.

We travelled across country last fall and in some areas all you would see were truckers on the roads no other drivers. It’s amazing what these people do for a living and I hope they are safely doing it.

I'm glad my mother came back home before this happened. She's a relatively new truck driver and was going through Donner Pass a few times recently

as a truck driver who drives DAILY in Washington State, we know the risk going in. we are constantly watching the weather and the local state road information to stay informed. but we go in anyways for different reasons. some just want to get home to see their families. others need the money to pay bills on time for their own personal expenses and needs. it can be a grind. especially if your over the road. but hey, this is the life we chose to do. stay safe!🇺🇸

The day I moved away from Reno Nevada which is 45 minutes from Tahoe. Tahoe got 96 inches of snowfall in 24 hours that's 4 inches per hour that's just nuts this was 1994 that I was there.

These truck drivers didn’t ignore warnings, or purposely allow themselves to be stuck in snow drifts. Blizzards are like “frozen” hurricanes w/snow blowing sideways, and accumulating quickly. I feel terrible for the drivers. Thank goodness they were more concerned w/ moving our groceries and goods to our local towns….w/o truckers, we’d starve.

Got stuck in The Siskiyues when I-5 closed due to snow. Remembering the worst discomforts were no water or bathrooms. Everyone was totally stopped and no accidents. Long night.
