My husband passed away on a cruise. It is easier to bring the body back on the ship. The red tape is extensive bringing the body back otherwise. I chose to complete the cruise. My son joined me at the next port. It was a horrible experience but the cruise line did their best to make a horrible experience bearable. I never tried to visit where his body was located but I’m sure they did their best.

Love the Lego You! Lol!! Wait til I tell my son. He's been bugging me to do a trans-Atlantic. When I tell him a Lego store is involved, it will likely be our next cruise (after Alaska, of course).

A refrigerator is a The temperature of either would be the same. No, harm no foul. They did her a favor by not off loading the body in San Jaun.

Regarding the morgue issue - as often happens, there there is something missing in the story - most cruise ships have morgues that can handle anywhere from 2 to 6 deaths (depending on the ship's passenger capacity) - so were there more than the ship could handle on this voyage, The decision was made by the wife to continue on the cruise for a further 6 days after the death, what lead to this decision, cost of repatriation, no insurance to cover this incident so opted to wait till homeport arrival, the complicated nature of the repatriation of the body from a foreign territory, the physical or mental capability of the wife to be able to do it all on her own (at least if done at the home port there would be the ability to have family/friends there to meet and assist. A drinks cooler would be an alternative choice if all morgue berths were occupied as they both keep their contents at a temperature just above freezing. Drinks are all in closed containers, so the fear of cross-contamination is not a huge one. Bodies are placed in bodybags, so any bodily fluids that may escape are well contained. For practical reasons, placing a body on a pallet on the floor is far preferable to placing it on a table or two, to get a flat surface large enough to accommodate a body, where it may get jostled off and fall to the floor in times of inclement weather/heavy seas. I am sure the crew was not comfortable having the body there either when they had to go into the cooler to restock drinks supplies. I worked many years where part of my job was to accompany family members to view deceased individuals, and I can tell you, it was always uncomfortable walking into that morgue to bring the bodies out for the family to view

The LEGO figure is way cool. Glad you made the decision to take the cruises quickly. Sometimes they just fall into place.

When I was a little girl I remember there was a flu outbreak on a transatlantic cruise and we had 7 burials at sea, where the bodies were slid off a board into the sea in a bag, with all of the passengers witnessing for a solemn ceremony.
