If they have technology similar to ours (or better), they will know our tech will have advanced 70 years since the initial transmissions. What they really have to guess is the rate of our technological advancement. Have we only achieved colour television in those seventy years or have we developed fusion reactors, interstellar travel etc science fiction to us at the moment.

It’s likely that we are the only technologically advanced life forms in the entire Milky Way galaxy. Look at how long it took, the cataclysmic events that happened and how many iterations of life it took for humans to arise. We have specific traits that are likely required for a life form to become technologically advanced… the likelihood of that happening many times in a galaxy is probably exceedingly rare…

We're not alone we have a variety of species we share with and in turn destroy this planet by no accident.

Why do we assume that if, if there is an alien life out in the cosmos, they have any need to communicate?… as in, we use words and sounds to communicate, hence our technology is built upon that very concept, we speak and make noises and we listen and see the communication, we developed communication upon the way we have evolved… so the error is assuming aliens have that concept, need or want to do that. So the question should not be based upon how can we seek a life form by waiting for distant communication based upon our model of communication… we base so much research upon the fact we want to see other life sized beings to communicate with, yet we can’t talk to a slug, a mouse, a bacteria…. Hell the one life form we all want to talk to is our dogs, yet we can’t even do that with complete understanding or efficacy. So why not harness the way we learn to “communicate” with what we can see and interact with, which will develop other ways to find communication in the cosmos…
As The great man said himself, if we have the power to terraform another planet to be just like earth, then we have the power to terraform earth back to the way it should be… so the same should apply with learning to interact with life forms here on earth, not just human.
