I am sorry to see so many unChristmasy messages here. I am currently an aid worker, working in northeast Syria, helping people recover from the ravages of war. I think it is sad to see so many of my fellow Canadians, who have so much, be so uncharitable to those who, through no fault of their own, now have so little. As to the concept of Moslem values being opposed to Canadian values, I would ask you to come here - or to Iraqi Kurdistan, where I have also worked - I can guarantee you will be blown away by the kindness, charity, tolerance, and forgiveness shown by these people. (I agree that Islamist values are not acceptable in Canada, but Moslem ones certainly are.) I would be proud to have almost any of the people I work with here be Canadians - and the majority of them are kinder and more generous than so many Canadians. (The Kurds are so honest that shops do not need to put away all their merchandise from outside the shops - they just cover it with cloths. It is not uncommon for shopkeepers - who do not earn much and have had to replace so much after the most recent battles - not allow me to pay for what I wish to buy or the service they have just rendered to me. They have nothing to gain - I am not repeat business nor can I do them any benefit, yet their kindness and gratitude for my being here, for what little I can do for their communities, is amazing.) I ask my fellow Canadians to remember what Christmas is about.

Canadians should be proud of their country. However, for us in the US, from next year, we will have an arrogant and narcissistic president in our white house. (I'm NOT a hillary fan at all). But for most of us in the US it's hard to be patriotic anymore.
