Virtual education, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and peer-to-peer learning communities have the potential to completely reinvent the classroom experience as well as how we educate humanity across the globe.  More and more, people are self-directing their education, and empowering themselves beyond traditional educational institutions. The definition of education is in a state of flux and the capacity for transformation is limitless.  Will "education" as we know it become obsolete? What will the future of learning look like?  Finally, can a new model of education make for a more just world?

FEATURING:

They should make a 2 minute video aswell because this should be on a viral level. Learning is not memorising for an exam, we should know this by now.

I think the best way is to have parwnts that care and make sure you are learning. Im reaponaible for my daughters education and I wont hold my daughters teacher accountable.

An why should one go straight to 1:02:25 when that part is just as great as the one-liner after.

I notice that there are no teachers on this panel... I think they would have something else to say, I doubt it would be welcome to the discussion...

Why do we want great advice? Or why is the great advice at 1:02:25?

Hang on! Did the same person who just slammed the need for PhD has now just stated that "The traditional MOOC's have done an amazing job" and "should be celebrated". Who created the MOOC'S? OH, that's right....someone with a PhD.

he should start right away learning how to cook in a future social learning center. everything about cooking should be already there for him to explore to see if he wants to keep going with the subject chosen. you should never force somebody into doing something just because you think it s important. the future kids choose want you want to learn on your own and go for it. NO TEST SCORES NO GRADE SYSTEM GONE. THERE NO SUCH AS A SMARTER OR DUMBER HUMAN ITS A MATTER OF ONE S OPINION.

25 comments in just about six weeks? The problem is not simply providing opportunities for learning, but - most significantly - encouraging people to use them. Thinking is simply not seen as 'cool', especially by young western men. Take a look around, and see folks pretending to be even more stupid than they are, just to avoid alienating themselves socially.

Ignorance may be bliss, but it is a contributor to bigotry and hate.

Ouch!  Was really loving this video until we had to listen to the ignorant views of one of the panel members on the future of PhD's. Only those who don't understand the importance of credible research would make such comments.  Without it we are left here to listen to such ignorant views.  What would she suggest?  That we get our research from Blogs?  Are we as a society valuing opinion, pop culture and what is popular over what has been tested and undergone scrutiny?  Some really amazing points made in this video, but this girl needs to be challenged with her views.

poor humans they still do not understand how we learn. a human can only learn by true step by step methods. the kid has to want to learn not force to by law. this reality we humans live right now is very funny. lol i mean we really believe you can just take children away without reason will solve all the worlds problems. kids should have full control over there lives when it comes to THERE future of education. maybe like this. JOHN age 4- i like cooking just like my mom.
