John talked about this recently. It took him a whole day of pulling Cleve to figure out how to beat him. In the end he grabbed him low and dad moved him, because Cleve’s hand was so strong.

Not as surprising as you would think. Cleve was pure strength and not technical. This was when he was past his prime and John (and to some extent Lupkes and Goodridge) were the top dogs during these years

I read that Cleve was world champion 10 years straight starting way back in the 70s, so he was waaay past his prime in this match. And I know John is a special kind of beast and one of the best of all-time.

So i watched Pulling John years ago when it 1st came out. I was a fan of his ever since. Didnt need to know much to know that he was a beast from another world for decades. But now that im seeing Cleave, id love to see something in the same fashion as Pulling John. Documentary style with everybody he knew him. Also did he have any kids of his own to follow in his footsteps??
