Pro Tools FANBOY Tries FL STUDIO 21!

FL Studio 21. It's here. This is a fundamentally different mixing experience than I've ever had in the past but I really like it. Coming from only having worked in PRO TOOLS, this is definitely a different world, and I know I just barely scratched the surface of what this DAW can do. The mixer, and playlist arrangment window work completly different than what I'm used to using in DAWS like pro tools, cubase, logic, reaper, almost anythign. So far it seems like FL STUDIO 21 is the most unique approach to a DAW that I've tried yet!

In my opinion, “Fruity Send” is the greatest thing about mixing with FL studio. It makes parallel processing/FX returns extremely clear to hear and blend in the mix. If you ever decide to open back up FL, please try it! It’s awesome.

You don't always need to go to more plugins. Just scan and star the plugins you always use

If you chose the 2nd option when dragging in audio it would've placed everything on Seperate mixer channels & linked Playlist track to corresponding channel

As someone who's been using FL for about 10 years now, I highly appreciate your genuine attempt in it. Others in the comments talking about the lack of mixing capabilities in FL just haven't delved a little deeper into the tools available. That "Slow motion" audio that plays when you hit S is because your keyboard also doubles as a MIDI keyboard and you hit a low note on the "piano." But you can easily turn that entire feature off with the little keyboard icon at the top next to the BPM. Once that is off, the Arrangement Windows's shortcuts become activated. That is how you dramatically speed up your work flow with B being your Multi Tool, C being the cut tool, T being your mute, and so on. All your tools are on the top left of the arrangement window.

I sincerely hope you give it another chance as you already seem fairy comfortable with FL!

One thing that also sets FL Studio apart from other DAWs is their documentation. You can literally ask for help on anything in the interface and stock plugins and the help will pop up with a very well written page with everything about what you just clicked. The usefulness of your software goes only as far as how you can teach it to someone else. FL excels at that and you can quickly get up to speed on it.

That was an awesome video! Just a tip that might be helpful if you decide to give it another go:
Don't underestimate the power of the scroll wheel in FL Studio. It's incredibly versatile – you can change plugin orders and tweak all the knobs, along with the Ctrl key for finer adjustments, and so much more.

FL is my first DAW, the first one I used as a teen when I was sailing the high seas so to speak. I've tried other DAWs, but when it came to buying a license officially for a DAW, I went with FL. It does what I want it to do, and that's that.

I personally like how open-ended FL Studio is, it's not linear, far from it. But that's its thing. You can route things in any way you want, and the arrangement window is not limiting in any way, you can put MIDI on top of audio recordings on top of automation and it just works. When it comes to actually writing songs in FL, then yes you'll want to be more organized with your track layout but if you really wanted to you could use one arrangement track for the entire song.

Tbh, all you need is soundgoodnizer in every track and it’ll magically be perfect 😂😂😂😂😂😂

one of fl's biggest features is just how modular it is, you were very convinced that the way you were doing things was wrong but i can assure you that fl is meant to be jerry rigged. theres millions of different ways to do things and you have the freedom to find or even build options and workflows that work best for you. great work and i love how open and noncombative you were i feel like a lot of producers think when something isnt a copy of what theyre used to its wrong when they just put themselves in a box or refuse to look into how the workflow can be modified to fit your preferences

limiter is the visual compressor your looking for. its name is limiter but it does so much more than limit its a full compressor, saturator, limiter, and noise gate

also turn of the piano keyboard to use the shortcuts
and have to go to more plug-ins to get plugins everytime just click the star next them and it'll pop up in the regular plug-in window

Regarding waves plugins: you can load waveshell and select the plugin you want to use

And regarding plugin selection: you can adjust the individual plugins in the plugin manager, categorize them etc. Afterwards you will be able to use them without opening "more plugins". Also they are going to appear in the more visual plugin selector:)

I've used Fruity Loops since 3.0 as a composition and jam tool (controlling software and hardware via MIDI) I still use ProTools for audio recording (albeit a really old version) but the speed and my comfort level in FL won't have me ditching it completely anytime soon.

I don't know if you've looked at it yet but my first DAW was ACID Pro. Also I still call this Fruity Loops too, I don't care if they've rebranded it will always be Fruity to me haha

You already missed it before you draged.
You supposed to set your tempo first.
Also you don't drag to to the playlist you drag to the track number and it will automatically link to the mixer.

You can actually search for plugins in the browser from your left where the samples are.
