it's worth noting that he wasn't necessarily that comfortable with what he was, since somewhere in his forties, long before the success, there was a pretty sincere suicide attempt that only failed by chance. i only mention it because there's an idea circulating right now that one must find in oneself a form of radical acceptance, and that that acceptance must be flawless. i very much doubt such a thing is achievable, especially for people who struggle with mental illness. aim for radical acceptance, but know that it will most likely fall far short on a regular basis. i suppose, one has to try to accept that fact, too.
