Solved; X9D newbie mistake: Output channels were set to 1..8. I set it to 1..16 and all works well! Thanks again for the excellent tutorials!

Great set of videos. Thank you.
Note to all - the SxR will work better when it is firmly mounted as close to the C of G as possible. This should ensure the onboard accelerometers / gyros sense the true attitude/acceleration changes, in a consistent way, for all axis & directions.

Spent my time watching these two videos getting to know the Taranis qx7 and s6r with stab'. I'm a lot more confident with the radio and receiver. And! got it working!!. Well done

Thanks Lee. Everything sorted on the bench, ready for maiden tomorrow. Its all responding as it should and despite its complicated nature, I have confidence in the setup thanks to these videos. Patreon subscription well spent!

Thanks for a plain English explanation of this flippin' receiver set-up. I'd been beating my head against a brick wall and getting nowhere, until another flyer recommended your channel. I've been flying r/c for about 50 years, so have a vague idea of what I'm doing! One of my preferences is airborne video, and as you are probably aware, getting a model - no matter how large - to be a stable camera platform is not easy - what looks, from the ground, to be stable, is in reality bouncing and wobbling all over the place! Hence my choice of the S6R, as there is no room in the fuz for an add-on external system. My normal camera platform is an e-powered glider, with a moderately large span, so I need to set up the 'level' flight on the glide, and now I know about channel 12 - I might make some progress!

Thank you for this excellent support. Without your channel I would never manage.

Great 2 part series, Thanks for sharing this. The extra tips helped me out. I have now set up both S6R and S8R. They work brilliant. I have not had to use the panic switch YET! Touch wood...

Thanks for the video. Been trying since last week to set this up and struggling as I'm using a 9xr pro and and ersky 9x firmware. A lot of this video relates to the radio/firmware I'm using and even now has the lua script available for the S6R. The only difference is the lack of a second 3 position switch for self check but is easily bypassed by using the failsafe button as you mention. It's now inside a Skywalker Falcon and working. Thanks again.

Hi Lee - I've been struggling with the S6R for weeks now, trying to get the altimeter and vario to work with it, and failing - The altimeter won't reset either, it is seemingly stuck at minus 200 feet, even after a repeated telemetry reset…

The exact same vario/altimeter module worked perfectly with the X8R rx
- With the vario selected on, I get random single bleeps at mid tone, and higher pitched pip-pip while the vario is stationary on the bench. Lift the vario over my head, and I get the pip-pip - once! and the bleep when I put it down again - not the continual tonal variations as the height changes. I sometimes get the pip-pip AND the bleep at the same time!

Here's my set-up -

Transmitter is Frsky Taranis plus - version 2.2.4 <66bb9c3a>
rx is S6R gyro
vario set-up - p11 (of 14) Special Functions - SF9 - SB (arrow down) Vario -
p13 Telemetry - sensor 6 Vspd * 0.0f/s 1 sensor 8 vari * 0.0ft (blank) - can't access it to change
In the sensor settings, I've got - Sensor - Vspd - type Custom - id 0110-1 - unit f/s - precision 0.0 - ratio offset 0.0 - auto offset etc boxes all unticked

Have I missed something silly? I've tried altering all settings - one at a time! - with no joy.

Ty for the help.

I loved your epilogue.
Frsky is equipment is impressive.
I feel completely neglected as a customer and ripped off paying these prices for items that need such extent of deep education, soldering. Are you freaking serious. I had to make a connector too Feels like college....a bunch of BS on be.
Thank you for your rant and getting us through it.
I'm in awe how is goes on and on.

Thanks Lee, another brilliant video for someone waiting for both the S6R and his first model to arrive in the post.

No idea if you can help, but I've followed your 2 part series and am having problems getting my S8R receiver to work. I have a Taranis X9D+ radio that I bought 3 or 4 years ago. It has always worked flawlessly but it still had the original firmware, version 2.0 something. I realized that I needed to upgrade, so I looked at the choices and decided to go middle of the road with a tried and true firmware and installed version 2.2v0021. That got me a nag screen about the "expected version" and I got that fixed by a change to the SD card contents. So far so good. I next went to the FRSKY site and downloaded the newest firmware for the S8R receiver (FCC version for US use) and followed your tutorial on running a servo cable (male to swapped red/black lead male) from the external module pins to the smart port on the S8R receiver. The firmware upgrade went just fine (to a point). It finished properly. When I attempted to continue with the S8R LUA file, I realized that the firmware upgrade had deleted the BIND that I had done with the receiver and it needed to be rebound to the transmitter. PROBLEM: It would NOT bind. Others have apparently hit this same wall. I found this message on a forum: "HI, just found the problem. The S8R-ACCST-V2.0.1 DOES NOT BIND!!!! I downloaded the previous version, S8R_FCC_20190531.frk and binding is successful." I had downloaded and installed the newer SBR_ACCST_V2.1.0 rather than the slightly older S8R-ACCST-V2.0.1 but I had the same problem with it NOT binding. I was able to successfully install the "OLD" firmware version (S8R_FCC_20190531.frk) and then the receiver would BIND once again. I have scratch built an 80" fixed wing video platform; hence the desire to get the S8R working correctly (I have 2 shiny new S8R receivers and both are behaving the same way) After binding with the OLD firmware, I was able to run the calibration LUA successfully (on both S8R receivers). I am using separate aileron servos on channel 1 and channel 5. I had all of the flight controls configured and working properly before beginning this little nightmare. I went through part ONE of this TWO part series and set up channels 9, 10, and 12 exactly as you showed. I ran the S8R Lua file and configured the settings to match the plane. The flight controls just got weird. Ailerons worked 1/2 way --- I got level to full right turn but no left turn. Elevator went up but not down. I lost rudder throw to one side. I thought maybe I needed to delete the MIX setting for channel 5 (as per you PART one screen on the mix --- I wasn't certain at the point where I watched that screen so I left my channel 5 mix in place). Deleting my channel 5 mix did nothing good. At this point I am left with a bunch of flight controls that only half work. I have been at this total process for about 8 hours and I am FRAZZLED. Suggestions will be gladly accepted. MY FIRST THOUGHT ---- Do I need to go to a radio firmware in the 2.3 series rather than the and then reinstall the latest version of the S8R Will the receiver bind with that combination of firmwares? At this point I have swapped in a V8FRII receiver to make the plane flyable again and I am considering installing an older HK 3 channel stabilization box that I have. I would much prefer to get the S8R to work as it should.

Thank you very much! I had some problems setting up, but by following your two movies everything is working now... tnx a lot!

Followed your setup. No issues there. The receiver that I am using, SR10-PRO, will not enter the "calibration" mode.

With gains set reasonable low on auto-level is is possible to perform a loop while in that mode. It get very exciting at top of loop when the S6R can't decide the difference between up and down.

I am slowly working my way to flying for the first time my latest & 'Greatest' plane design. Using S8R it is fine except don't yet have more than one mode SA up working with other two positions not stabilized...so that is OK...some tip on how this should look on the qx7 to get other two might be good. Also, everything working in flying wing setup except only way to get correct stabilization is with pins to front.

Thanks for all your great help.

Thanks, for this video. One question: at around 13 minutes, you say to rebind the receiver - I'd be grateful, if you could explain why this is necessary. Thanks.

Many thanks, for your quick reply.

3 Questions:
1. When I'll change the calibration switch to the momentary switch, I won't be able to turn the calibration program? It's only works with the 3 switch position?
2. After all the flying and calibration ends, I need to rebind the receiver?? Wouldn't it delete all my work?
3. Will you do a video about the advance program of the S8/6R? 3d and other?
Thanks man.

Does anyone know if the self-level mode will work through the S-bus output? Or will it only work with servos connected to the PWM outputs?
