Love of greatness to moments of hopelessness". Mark is by far the most entertaining golf instructor on utube.

Hands down (pardon the pun) the best tip I've had for years, it's straightened me up no end. All I do is keep my hands on plane, but let the club head describe a gentle drop inside at the top. Works a treat.

This drill made me realize i had face open to path at the top of my backswing. The open face caused over the top swing, and flip strike. Learned how to ‘twist’ that face closed at the top then leave the hands there while I start my downswing with lower body. Totally shallowed me out and brought the club from inside out. Wow, what a difference, hitting perfect draws now and added SO much confidence. Great vid thank you 🙏

One of your older videos, but I'm glad I found I found it. This is exactly my issue. My swing looks almost identical to old mate's and my results are exactly as you said - when I'm on, I hit bombs, but when I'm not, I spray it all over the place. I'll be giving this drill a good crack.

Mark, been watching your videos for nearly 11 months now and this video by far has helped me the most as my contact improved greatly! I played today after trying this last night at home and WOW! Contact was amazing and had some very nice strikes! When I keep the hands and butt end of club pointing at my belly button through impact zone my power actually increases?? Not sure if that is mechanically sound buy I actually hit a 6 iron about 170 yards straight today for the first time in my life! Going to keep working on keeping hands in this position during downswing and impact. Many many thanks!

I used that prayer grip swing as you posted on another video and that is a fantastic drill as sometimes a feeling of what you want to achieve sinks in quicker than trying to replicate something that you see, and it also lays the club for better delivery. Cheers bruh.

All makes sense. My instructor works on keeping my hands low in the swing and let the club wrap around to the body to the left at the finish. However, it took me two seasons of hard work to make sense of it all. It does not feel natural, but it is what one must do to consistently hit pin seekers. I also use a strong grip which seems to help. Love your work Mark.

Many thanks for this lesson—its exactly what I am working on now. I really like your naturally tucked bent right elbow and the opening hips

Love this video - watched a few others on hand path and it has gotten me swinging where my hands come out but not down towards the ball enough, and on too high a path. It's exactly as you describe, I occasionally hit great shots but struggle with consistency, a two way miss, and also fatting it often from having to throw the club head at it...

Thanks for all the great videos and objective analysis. Question about this video and another you did 7 months ago on follow through ( The Golf Follow through how should it look). How do you sling the club out to the ball as you suggest in this video without cupping the wrists which adds loft and opens the face. Alternatively, when I focus on bowing the wrist I tend to hold it off which cause the ball to go left anyways. What's the right middle ground? When you do the one leg drill, the left wrist cup on the follow through. Is it just a matter of timing? Thank you

Would the thought of just bringing the hands in closer to the body in the downswing do the same thing?

Ive been a 17 handicap for years and tried everything and I mean everything to cure a slice. Ive always been a hitter not a swinger. This feeling of dropping my hands slightly behind whilst turning all the way without stopping has actually got me hitting straight shots. I also feel my hands go more quickly left after impact. Not sure if this is correct but my swing feels more rounded without hitting. For the first in years Ive turned a corner. This guy is mustard. Try this if your a slicer but stick with it. Takes a bit to get the feeling. Once again Thank you!

pretty good description here ... hands that are higher (and typically further away from body) at impact (compared to the address position) are associated with a down swing plane that is too steep, and a club that is typically delivered from the "outside".  Mark describes one fix.  Another option is to swing "under" appropriately placed alignment sticks.  Leadbetter's A swing is another approach to flatten the downswing plane and come from the inside.  Important part of the swing to check on video and correct if need be.

Quick question...are your hands moving vertically down with the shaft flattening from the top or is there a slight hand movement 'towards' the ball i.e. down and forward? Also are wrists still arched? Great work have a great weekend.

Hey mark this is exactly me. I have rounds of 70's and rounds of 90's. Can crush the ball but wildly inconsistent o a day to day/week basis. Also occasionally have a shanking issue.
I understand the drill but are you talking about changing the entire swing or just working this drill until it naturally corrects the swing path.

So I just started taking lessons and what Mark is saying is absolutely true, what he is describing feels very foreign and counterintuitive but he’s right. There’s less trying to control the club face and it actually is less complicated once you “get it”. I don’t get it totally yet but after having it explained by my instructor in slow motion it makes sense. Also, in Marks defense what he’s trying to explain isn’t easy to do to someone unfamiliar with the concept.

Are you dropping the angle with wrist angles then mark?

Mark Crossfield how do you stay focused through a round of tournament golf?

Hi Mark,
I tried this approach of swinging around my body more and I noticed a couple things. 1. I hit the ball farther and just a straight as my other, better shots. 2. This made me feel very off balance (falling backwards almost) and awkward as if I was getting lucky with those shots, and therefore not something I could confidently repeat. Anything else I can work on, to help with this type of swing feeling?

Hey thanks for the video Mark. What's the best way to feel the shaft flattening or laying down as you begin the downswing? I've played around with "leading with the right elbow" and more recently, feeling like I'm rotating my left forearm and wrist (right handed golfer) clockwise to begin the downswing. I've found that works immediately as you point out, but it's very inconsistent right now. So what would be a better way of feeling that for chronic, ingrained, trying to break the habit OTT'ers out there?! Thanks!
