In this webinar, Katherine Schulten, editor at The Learning Network and the author of Student Voice: 100 Argument Essays by Teens on Issues That Matter, a collection of the work of past winners, will walk us through the Student Editorial Contest and explain how students can use our resources to sharpen their skills at making and defending arguments. You will also hear from a New York Times journalist, previous student winners, and an educator who uses this contest every year.

Together we will …
- Suggest ways to help your students construct an effective argument by first identifying and exploring issues they genuinely care about.

- Learn about engaging writing prompts that can offer your students daily “low-stakes” practice in argumentative writing.

- Analyze mentor texts to see how student writers employ effective voice, and back up their claims with research and evidence.

- Walk you through our Student Editorial Contest and all the related resources that support it.
