I'm the reverse. I ride ski doo and I don't like the handlebar/steering on polaris.

I do think this is a game changer.

2021 850 Etech Turbo! Turn key operation, No mess, no fuss.

Add pump gas, oil & go!

So  there I was in West Yellowstone MT. Feb 18th riding with this group of guys.. One of them had a Ski-Doo Summit 850 turbo.

Can I take it for a ride I asked?  Sure he said.

We were at about 7, 700 feet and about 23 F out. A bit earlier I had taken my Ski-Doo Summit '18 non turbo 850 (about 125 hp at 7, 700 feet) up and down some hills and along a route I had picked out for comparison riding. The 850 turbo (165 hp at 7, 700 feet) easy had 15-20+ mph MORE track speed than my ’18 850 on the same hills, route & elevation.

The engine response was electric in nature!! With a flip of the throttle, power on and now! At that elevation you could hear the turbo most of the time. No lag. Power now and alot! It was so fun to ride! What a fun sled!!

This sled overall cost less than adding a turbo to what you have. When you add in the time / cost of adding a turbo kit, and the tinkering to get it to run right. AND this turbo is made for this engine from the getgo! And it runs on 91 pump gas.

AND you get a 2 year warranty.

Would you get that with a kit?

Interesting point of view. I’m a Polaris guy at heart but I will buy any brand that has a better sled but I’m partial to Polaris. I’m sure you have had a bad experience with skidoo at some point in time but never say never. I bought the 850 turbo and it is a game changer. I ride at 8-12k ft. There is no comparison. I have an axys 800, I have a 2019 skidoo 850, and was waiting on a new patriot 850 from my dealer buddy. The new turbo came out and the patriot hadn’t come in so I bought the turbo, no regrets! No overheating, no misfiring, no tinkering, no waiting for my belt to cool so I can make another pull, no special fuel, no clutching, just pull and go with a full warranty.

I look forward to Polaris coming out with a turbo but until then I will be all smiles😬

I just snow checked the VR1 129 track with Ct. tax for 15g people will have no problem paying the 18g for the turbo summit.

I have a hard time believing when people say after market kits run I ride in Oregon at 6k to 9k and with a large group of 15 to 20 friends all with turbos on Polaris and skidoo’s both Silber and Boondocker and none of them have ever run perfect day in and day out. There is always random sputtering or pre detonation at high rpm, blowing plugs, over rev, and any number of little problems. This is a factory produced and tuned Sled built for this Sled not just to fit a sled, this will make the performance way better than after market. I bought one and rode side by side with my Silber @7psi and I will tell you don’t dog it till you ride it! It’s very impressive even next to an high boost Silber kit!

I'm liking my Polaris also but can get why people might switch .

Great vid, as a older teenager watching this with a slightly outdated 2010 iq shift, this would be a dream sled for me in next ten years or so ... going from a .91 inch to a 3 inch paddle with and extra hundred hp would be insane

I think its awesome when factories progress. It gives us options and pushes the other manufactures. It’s funny hearing all the hate on it. It’s a mountain sled made for higher elevation and I think 40 horsepower is a pretty significant gain over stock sleds that lose power with elevation. I would say it’s a game changer that pushes Polaris and Cat to step up the game. It’s a win win for us I think. I love the way sleds are going because they are incredibly capable and they keep getting better. I say good job Doo!

I think if a company could make a 800cc mountain sled for $10, 000 would be huge. Sleds get spendyer and spender. Its gonna turner into a new truck or new sled here pretty soon

Bikeman performance actully did a dyno run, on the New 850 turbo and it makes 177 hp so i think Brp has been shy With its numbers!

I do think this is a game changing release. No I'm not buying or snow checking a new 850 Turbo as I purchased a 2020.5.... Since 2009 I have had a turbo Skidoo this one however is the smoothest Turbo 850 I have ever owned. I found the Rotex loves Boost but not over 5 lbs. and 3 lbs. is the best at 3 they are pull and go to tweaking at all I do not know why spend hours at 5 lbs. tweaking and couldn't get it perfect, at 3lbs. easy. Handling comment I would like to say, that I have always found the Polaris to be more work to ride than the Skidoo platform that being said I ride with Die Hard Polaris guys, we love riding and we are always competitive when it comes to OUR brand that we support. So we also Expect our Brand to support us by also being Competitive this is only going to take our machines to the next level or else. I have already heard this from My Die hard Polaris buddies step up or else.... I think Skidoo has a great platform and their downfall is their cheap shocks big downfall in this area. Polaris will have to make the power or be freight trained, I truly hope they step it up and apply some pressure on my manufacturer, in the long run the consumer is the winner. But I do like being on top with this new sled, I keep telling them all, it's just a stock sled i'm riding nothing special total stocker..

Having purchased one I can say it's great! No cliches it's great. As for you phrasing "you would never buy it or any ski doo. Well that is exactly why the word opinion is in the American English vocabulary. And I hope you meant to state it that way. I rode an Axys and a Khaos and purchased a turbo ski-doo. So giving you my OPINION would be redundant.

Do you need a mic for a GoPro if your gonna snowmobile

Too bad it's only available in mountain sleds for 2023. Why isn't it available for all 850 sleds?

Having seen and ridden with the 850 Turbo, and also having watched it get towed down the mountain a few days in because of gremlins, yes they are game changers, only because they are building what people have asked for, low boost, factory warranty turbo sleds. Its up to the competition to determine if its a viable business offering or not. Now would I buy the Doo? No because the chassis itself isn't what I prefer. That's the great thing about having multiple manufacturers, we get to choose what we ride. If Polaris does come out with a factory turbo next month, and since I was already planning on snowchecking it would be hard for me to spend near $17-18k CDN when there could be a turbo option for $2k more.

Not considering buying  skidoo because you didn't like your friends is fairly ignorant. Every rider likes a different set up and needs to set up the sled to suit their style, height, weight. Out of the box Doo's are set up well for the average parking lot poser but they come alive with some fine tuning.

I think you nail it and i go farther i am from Canada and an a long time Polaris client the Turbo Rmk was coming for 2021 and Ski-doo didn’t want to be second :) let’s hope this is true .

I'd rather take a pair of snow shoes to the mountains than ride a Polaris! SKI DOO all the way.
