Floodwaters from heavy rains that overtook two dams are retreating in some communities Thursday, but continue to threaten others farther downriver.

The flooding forced the evacuation of about 11,000 people in the Midland area. Officials caution it could take days for the water to recede. Wixom Lake is nearly empty after the nearly century-old Edenville Dam failed.

Wixom Lake is a R E S E R V O I R as in MAN MADE. Levels go up and down. This reservoir is not likely to come back. I would never buy a "lake front" home on a man made reservoir anyway. Too many variables. I feel terrible for all affected. So sad.

The lake won't refill until new dams are built. It will cost hundreds of millions of dollars and may take as long as five years or more. That's if the state decides or can afford to rebuild them at all. I don't see michigan spending that kind of money under the current administration.

Very sobering statement: "It could have been avoided". And it could have. As sorry as I am for all those affected by the catastrophe, everyone got burned by a group chasing the money? If indeed true, very, very bitter pill to swallow!
