This video contains:

1) Neon Plasma Glass: these double walled glass mugs glow orange and blue from the excitation spectrum of neon gas at low pressure. The base contains a high frequency transformer (Tesla coil) that generates high voltage electric fields (but at very low current) from USB rechargeable batteries- which excites the neon to glow, and also serves as a coaster. The inner volume varies in thickness which leads to variations in heat and pressure which in turn produces different excitations (orange and blue) of the neon gas in patterns that dance and dazzle the eye.

2) Eclipse Diamagnetic Sculpture

3) Oscillating Cylinder Steam Engine: a functional “wobbler” type piston steam engine complete with boiler and flywheel. In this design the cylinder and piston both rock back and forth, acting as the valve mechanism to allow the hot steam to enter through a small hole, and then exit on the next stroke out through the tiny exhaust port in the top.

4) Caustic Curve Lamp

5) Magnetic Tractor

6) Chaotic Coupled Rotors

7) Popsicle Stick Bomb: a form of simple tensegrity, the elastic potential energy of the bent sticks is dramatically released under application of a slight concussive force such as an impact with a table top- shown in forward and backward slow motion. Featured here is one of the simplest constructions with 5 flat sticks woven into a spring-loaded configuration held in place by friction and tension induced by the bending of the wood. A nice demonstration of energy conversion- potential to kinetic.

8) Okkake Koma

9) Flywheel Fun: a precision machined kinetic desk toy (with helical motion illusion) that will spin for 30 minutes! A massive cylindrical ring of brass is mounted on quality bearings- the combination of the ring’s large moment of inertia with the low friction contacts allows for amazingly long spin times. The spiral design converts rotational motion to translational motion for a nice visual effect.

10) Thermomotor Carousel

11) Bismuth Maglev Rod: Small magnets are trapped, suspended and floating, within the notch of a rod cast from the diamagnetic metal bismuth. Diamagnetic substances only have magnetic fields of their own when placed in an external magnetic field from another source- here the small floating magnet supplies the external field.

12) Compliant Mechanical Elephant

04:28 Challenge-1: why does the
larger disk (giraff) move
faster than the smaller
(monkey)?
07:44 Challenge-2
I want you all to answer. Don't worry about getting it right or wrong. Just answer!

LOL, ... That popsicle sticks bomb was something I did with my cousins back in 1972 when I was 6 yrs old. My cousin, my age, showed me how to make them and we'd fire them at each other playing war games... (I know, ... it's ALL fun and games until someone loses an eye), ... *: )*

Using almost the same flywheel as the one at 4:46, we machined grooves on the side of it so we could use an airblower to spin it up at high speed. That one lasted more than 30 min. And it was almost impossible to move because of the centrifugal force 😉.

I remember making popsicle stick bombs as a kid (I am in my 60s now)!

4:28 the larger disk has a larger surface area, so it has more friction and rotational force from the top.
8:03 Tungsten(W) is one of the densest metals out there. Which means you need less Tungsten to equal an equivalent weight of a less dense (i.e. lighter) metal such as Magnesium(Mg)

The giraffe disk has a greater circumference than the monkey so it travels further each revolution. i know this because i put low profile tyres on my old vdub, and now the speedo's out!

Challenge 1 answer - I think thats cause of its bigger size means its higher circumference, due to its higher circumference giraff travels more distance on that surface. Its angular velocity increases cause of increased circumference (i mentioned all the points that came in my mind)

Challenge 2 answer - Although it seems weird/cool that small part of cube is equal to thhat big part thats happening because that small part is made up of tungsten metal and bigger one with magnesium and small part has equal mass in less volume as compared to that big part, this is because tungsten(small part) metal has very high density and its atom consists more number of protons and neutrons than that of magnesium(larger part), magnesium metal has very less density as compared to tungsten, so its all game of density and to the one who made a perfect size cube in such a ratio that both have equal masses but in different volume cause of density

i am sorry i may have over ellaborated things, i will improve it

Thank you :)

The popsicle stick bomb I used to make those when I was a kid but we used to throw them and they went like a frisbee they fly like a Frisbee and then they explode when they hit the ground

Tungsten is evidently 7 times more dense….. which is why it is used in tank rounds

Because the density of Tungsten is much higher than Magnesium.

Answer to the cube question: The atomic weights are different…

FYI @0:44 There is no such thing as a "golden magnet" Gold is not magnetic and does not attract or repel magnetic fields. It's gold coated, so it's just for looks and is irrelevant in any other way. It may seem to be a pedantic observation but this is a physics channel so..

Challenge 1- Giraff vs Monkey disk
Short answer: Gear ratios.
The disks work In the same way that bicycle gears work (or any gear system). The smaller the gear (monkey disk in this case) the less it will rotate compared to the power gear (the spinning top in this case). Where the larger the gear (giraff gear) will rotate more.

Challenge 2- Tungsten vs Magnesium
Short answer: Size dose not equal Mass (Tungsten is heavier)
Tungsten is a very heavy metal and by comparison although the two are different in size, with Tungsten being smaller then the Magnesium, their weight is the same due to the density of the metals.

Only a bad teacher can make physics boring.
I love science because it is the only thing that makes sense of this world. ❤❤❤
