Linx 7 inch Windows tablet review, how good is a £79 Windows tablet?

This year we have seen prices of Windows tablets drop and drop as Microsoft push lower spec devices and lower licence costs so OEMs can make tablets that can compete with cheap Android tablets. One of the low cost tablets recent released comes in at just £79. The Linx 7 is a 7 inch Windows tablet running Windows 8.1 with Bing and has 1GB RAM, powered by an Intel Atom processor comes with a year’s Office 365. It all sounds great for £79 but how well does it actually work?

Got this tablet for Xmas in 2015 and it started to shut down regularly whilst in use after a few years. I've recently started to use it again out of boredom and its working great! No crashes or shutdowns while using it.  1st con which is the most common problem with any tablet, phone, laptop etc is the battery life but that is to be expected. 2nd con is its a bit heavy. Overall I'm happy with it. Can't really complain as I didn't pay for it lol

Thanks Ian Dixon you've made my mind up for me.

I saw this today in Staples who offer it for £69.99, with notice of associated £30 trade in on unwanted, working tablet.

I've got an unwanted tablet to trade in, like W8.1 and am astounded at the price.

I'm in. Cheers.

I can't believe you didn't watch this back before you uploaded it..and if you did then did you not think the light that was constantly reflecting on would make the video less impressive also your mumbling and struggling to speak was off putting but the tablet does seem ok..cheers anyway but a bit of planning would be better

I just got this tablet today, and don't know if you have experienced the same problem as me yet. The battery doesn't seem to charge or change its % when I am using it to watch videos, whilst it is charging at the same time of course. Anyone else having similar problems to this? Should I call up Linx and ask them about it, maybe it is a faulty model, or all tablets like this?

I ordered a HP Stream 7 new for $80 and came with a $25 giftcard, brought me over my ebay bucks milestone, so really I got it for $50. So glad I didn't get a Fire tablet.

How much space is there left after Windows is set up?
Also, is the 1 GB enough for normal usage (browsing the web, opening and editing documents). Won't there be any slowdowns or lag?

Did Windows 10 tablet mode replace this tablet UI from 8/8.1?

Looks like the Linx was designed to be put in a case... I can't think why they'd put the Start button where they did.

And another bloody tablet with mini HDMI out which my HP Stream 7 doesn't have!!

None of the Android emulators I've tried will run in 1GB RAM, they pretty much all need at least 2GB, whether these cheap tablets (and the upcoming Windows 10 making Modern apps more Desktop friendly and being a free upgrade for the first year) will mean a boatload of developers building apps for Modern Windows or whether that'll all go up the spout when a nice Modern Windows Android Runtime that *can* run in 1GB gets released and everybody just ports to that, I don't know, but I'm really liking what Microsoft are doing, they're finally getting something right after Windows 8 on desktops.
