What is the nVidia Tesla P4? - Cloud Gaming Server Part 17

nVidia always touted a MASSIVE performance boost between Maxwell and Pascal GPUs, but never has it been so apparent as between the Tesla M40 and the Tesla P4. But just how different is it? To find out, I pitted them against each other inside my cloud gaming server and took to the streets of Los Santos in GTA5.

But first... What am I drinking???

Welp this kinda sold me on it. I was holding out for a p2000 but then saw this.. and was like "its basically a 1080 with double the encode chips? AND its unrestricted?! Alrighty then!". So now I can get my Plex stuff going with more than just two streams without any funky scripting required, AND it supports vGPU so I can split a section of it off to work with my Shinobi Instance for object detection! :D WIN WIN

Try turning off ECC in the P4 and you will get the full 8GB.

That is insanely efficient. If it had more RAM, Nvidia would likely have been competing with their own products…but it’s highly likely that memory is limiting performance of this card. I could see these as dedicated pass through cards.

I thought my $80 Quadro M4000 (a downclocked GTX 970, but with 8 GB of VRAM) was pretty snazzy but this ... this ... changes everything!

Great video, and I was just looking at P4s for my lab. Noticed P100s are ~$280 as well at the moment, but tempted by the passive cooling here.

There's also the Tesla T4, more expensive, but can be found for 400 at times, gddr6 on tu104, 70W and 16gb, oh oh and and Rt cores! For anyone wanting to machine learn on a low profile and power budget, insane!!

So I picked up a G4, installed it in my Storinator running Proxmox 7.2, did all the passthrough, and it works in Geekbench. But anything that needs to create a display, like a game, doesn't seem to work. Am I stuck with parsec or is there some way to get the native console or RDP session to be accellerated?
