For me, Isaac Newton will always be Number One

This is a very hard list to come up with but I think Maxwell should have made top 3 for his work with electromagnetism.

The omission of Maxwell is awful. The world as we know it today would simply not exist were it not for his work on the theory of electro-magnetism. All bar Newton and Darwin would have been unable to accomplish their work were it not for him.

Putting Hawking in from of the likes of Dirac, Maxwell, Faraday and many others if down right insulting

Go Hawking! (the black hole theory is still unsolved.)

So they mentioned Rosalind Franklin with krick and Watson but don't mention Alfred Russell Wallace with Darwin

Sir Isaac Newton should be on the 1st position without any doubt!

Replace Bell with James Clerk Maxwell and it will be a decent list.

Apart from Newton, none of the people in list would have had anything to work on without the genius of James Clerk Maxwell.

John Logue Baird. The pioneer behind the television.

Alfred Russell Wallace should be up there with Darwin as the work Darwin gets credited for is just as much his work as well.

Fundamental lack of knowledge of British scientists - missing out JC Maxwell speaks volumes.

As an educated American I loved this list! Well done.

It's right that Turing is recognised but it was post office engineer Tommy Flowers who built the world's first electronic programmable computer at Bletchley. For me it has to be Michael faraday, who transformed this world more than any other, as he invented the electric motor, can you possibly imagine a world without that?

You missed James clerk Maxwell and Michael Faraday also Richard Dawkins

Britain is so ascendant in science, technology and inventiveness generally, that it shouldn't be a top 10, but simply a long list of amazing discoveries and laws realised. You can add Charter of liberties (1100), Magna Carta, and the English Bill of Rights(1689) and Parliamentary democracy(1707), as the 1st ratified free structures which were then adapted around the world, including to the USA and France, the 2nd and 3rd nation to experienc this
*Faraday Should be 4, or 5, Baird for the TV? James Watt(Steam engine)? Stevenson(Trains)?
Newton is number 1, it's not even questionable – He even put the West on the gold standard, whilst In the Royal Mint – amazingly, that's Starting to Rival his greatest discoveries, As We watch the Financial system in it's Final stages of collapse, since being taken off the gold standard by Nixon in 1970.

Not even questionable and as Darwin's discovery, Maxwell is clearly number 2. Faraday Should be 4, or 5, Baird for the TV, ? James Watt? Stevenson?
