The car industry, which has invested heavily on the basis of a 2030 shift away from petrol and diesel, has reacted furiously to the Prime Minister's plans.

Industry leaders fear that the delay to the 2030 electrification target could slow the rollout of charging infrastructure across the country.

The move was ill thought out to begin with. Politicians don't live in the real world and have no concept of how their decisions affect the ordinary working people.

It’s all nonsense, no such ban should ever have been imposed anyway.

If electric cars were so great, people would buy them without being forced.

I look out of my window every morning and it looks like it always does. There is no crisis. 😂

It's not a u turn. It's an admission that net zero targets were impossible to achieve from the start

The vast majority of the country want them to scale it back, only the news and a small handful of influential people are all for this.

Honestly instead of going electric we should just build better systems + infrastructure for public transport + bikes (as well as make using the former cheaper), that will have a much better impact on the environment than just switching to electric

They can't keep electricity on yet they want to add more things to pull on the electrical grid that can't handle it. Net zero means no electricity at all

Why are they surprised this country lacks so much infrastructure to support so many EVs

There’s going to be a lot of unsold electric cars now, and second hand ones are now worthless!

This seems reasonable. Mixed messaging aside, no one wants net zero apart from out of touch politicians and crusty hippies. How did they end up on the same side?

Aw what a pity for all those companies 🙄 maybe they can feel what the people of Britain feel of how they are treated

That's nice for them. On the other hand, we can't buy what we can't afford. They've got way more money than we have.

The truth is they would need to build a whole bunch of additional nuclear power plants to be able to power all those cars and trucks, which would cost a whole lot of money.

Why are they angry, has it messed up their little carbon credit ruse?

I’d the governments really cared about the environment, they wouldn’t be going electric.
They would be funding hydrogen and carbon neutral hybrid cars

The only sensible thing Sunak has done so far.

Shame. Industry leaders are cross because they’re profits are down. This is all about money making schemes for them, definitely not about the little people
