How to Remove a Jeep Wrangler JK Stock Front Bumper: A Step by Step Guide

For an overview, this video was good. There are steps you breeze through but I did like the part and tip for drilling out the plastic screws.

If you have a Rubicon, the wiring for the sway bar disconnect will need to be removed. The wiring is tucked across the inside of the bumper and held in place with push pins. Until you remove the 4 push pins holding the harness, it will be difficult to access the inside 18mm nuts. It will also be easier to access both the harness and the 18mm bolts if you first remove the upper splash guard. Order some new push pins for the upper and lower splash guards in advance. They are pretty cheap. My nuts were not moveable with a 1/2 ratchet, but a 24 inch breaker bar loosened them quite easily. BTW, most metric socket sets and wrench sets do not include the 18mm size. You will need it for many things on the Jeep, so get a wrench, a socket and a deep socket in that size to keep in your tool box.

For the plastic screws on the upper valence, you have to unscrew the screw to where just the inner part is moving not the outer ring, and you can’t put any pressure down on it just rotate it and it will screw out

🌟Big Tip:🌟 remove your grill, then remove that plastic piece you drill out. MUCH better access to the inside bumper bolts. The driver side still SUCKS but it's a little easier.

Not 19mm to remove the nuts holding the bumper in place. Second trip to Home Depot to get the right size upcoming. It’s 18mm....beware!

I wish it was this easy for my 2010 wrangler hahaha everything is pretty rusted and theyre not even budging... i have my new bumper on its way and idk what else to do

The tj has an actual steel front bumper. These make my tj look like a tank

So is there a difference between a 2017 JK wrangler bumper and a 2018 JK? I want to buy a metal bumper and it says they are all the same but the website is saying that it dose not fit my jeep. Not really sure.

Ummm you need to be more clear about the retaining clips I can’t get mine out. The screws are not unscrewing

thanks for the info. i just have one question what type of socket wrench did you use, or what size seems like the one i have didn't work,
