Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the governor of Maharashtra, caused a political uproar on Saturday after claiming that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis were expelled from the city, there would be "no money left." Koshyari stated at a public gathering in Andheri that if individuals from Gujarat and Rajasthan were removed, Mumbai would no longer be the financial capital.
"I tell the people of Maharashtra that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from the Mumbai and Thane areas, there will be no money left. Mumbai would no longer be referred to as the financial capital "Koshyari said.
The comment sparked outrage, with political groups from the defunct MVA administration seeking an apology from the Governor.
