For a lot of people, that abuse consumes them and they become an emotional wreck. But the chorus of this song depicts someone who was abused in some way staying strong and saying that this won't affect them in a bad way, but will make them stronger. That's why I love this song so much. Because it has such a powerful meaning to those who were abused.

"What You have done to me won't define who I am" yes, the person telling those lyrics is like escaping him/herself from the narcissistic pervert trying to recover. This reminds me of my relationship with a boy I met in high school. He was mentally ill and would never give up pursuing me, even after I told him no multiple times. He stalked me and threatened to kill himself when I rejected him. I eventually told him I was a lesbian after I had a nightmare about him. I hate myself for being like him. I have the same mental illness. I hate him. I'm refusing to have children because I never want a son like him. The thought of dealing with someone like that for decades instead of months frightens me. He might be coming to my university this fall, and he probably knows that I've been in relationships with men. I probably never cross his mind nowadays and he rarely crosses mine. Why did this song have to drag up those memories?
