Hold on. Clarification!! Bolton only criticized BLOTUS after his book came out. At no time during his tenure, nor after did he open his mouth. It was only after he began his book promotion tour that he said anything.

Adjusted for inflation we are at 50% of all time high credit card debt. Still have a long run way until that becomes a true warning. (also the number is headline number total and not adjusted for population growth either)

The average credit card balance doesn't tell the whole picture. You have to know what the interest rate is. In the last year or two, banks were offering low or zero interest on credit card balances for new purchases (or in more recent times, balance transfers from other banks, but unfortunately with fees attached making them less interesting). With savings account interest rates in the last year skyrocketing from like 0.1% to over 3% even approaching 4%, it makes perfect sense for people who qualified for lower credit card interest to put that money into no-risk savings or CD accounts and just pay the minimal payment each month on their credit card. You have to be careful to meet all the terms of course, but it's not that hard and if you are diligent, it's worthwhile.

David is right about credit card debt, people take more on when they feel confident, taking on debt is a sign of a good economy, its not about "I feel this" its just economic study, kind of scary when someone starts going down debate holes with "I feel"
