Does he have special rights because he's an ex-president or because he's running for president? If an ex-president, then he's not an ordinary citizen like they tell us. And if it's running for president, since when does the justice system care about a person's day job?

The US judicial branch has a poor reputation generally, but its overt politicisation in recent years has been a slow moving assault - largely by Republicans - on the rule of law. The great shame is that it is unlikely the Democrats will have the numbers to undertake the reforms so desperately needed. Speaking as a retired attorney, I think that Cannon should face not just an investigation into prejudicial conduct, but also a criminal one.
