But what about perspective?! Good point. Stretching isn't the same a turning because of perspective. BUT, circles should still be preserved. The only thing perspective might do is move the hole up or down a little.
By the way, I'm thinking of setting up a separate #shorts channel as I know some of you would rather not see them in your feed. What do you think?

I can’t see the thriving DVD industry surviving this shocking revelation… 😮

The thing with graphical desing and marketing is that it must never be perfect but rather visually pleasing. That way, the V tip seems to point to the center of the DVD producing the visual illusion of cohesive symmetry

As a graphic designer, I can assure you that what is "right" and what "looks right" are often not the same! There are plenty of instances of things being tweaked so that they seem correct to the eye, even though they are a bit off from geometric perfection. For example, the capital "G" in the Google logo seems to be a perfect circle, but the section near the cross-bar is actually bent slightly inwards. Look up "Google logo anatomy" to see what I mean.
All this to say: I'm sure the designer of the DVD logo knew exactly what they were doing.

This is quite similar to the fact that the mouse pointer we see in our computer screen is asymmetrical.

I'd have liked it if you then did the reverse: start with a proper hole of the correct size, and then used a perspective tool to stretch it back.

It’s like the DVD itself is shocked at this realisation.

It's quite clear that Steve has _LOTS_ of time on his hands.

I was in a meeting once and actually saw the DVD logo hit the corner of the screen! It was a great day to be alive.

This is exactly the kind of pedantry I like to see.

This is called optical compensation, which is often needed in elliptical shapes bc they are perceived smaller. For example, you can see in any typography the round letters such as C, are a bit taller than they squared counterparts. Additionally there´s the need to enlarge negative spaces for printing purposes, especially in smaller sizes.

Like the G in google, and other logos, sometimes things look better with certain artistic liberties taken, and not when made exactly symmetrical or with basic geometry (perfect circles, etc)

The circle would look weird if it was in the middle because we expect it to be aligned with the middle of the V. Graphic design is filled with things not properly sized/aligned because they ‘look wrong’ if you do.

The pure giddiness Steve expresses upon revealing the oval-shaped hole fills me with joy

Their graphic designers clearly weren't overly concerned with precise vector positioning

They probably thought it was cool or more eye-catching and did it deliberately, too

Something regarding graphic design I like to keep in mind:
It doesn't matter if it's technically correct if it looks wrong

I suspect the reason is
1) legibility: if the central hole was small and more flattened, it would be thin enough to be less clear what it is
2) It's offset to match the slightly swept (italicized?) letter V

We should file a class action lawsuit for false advertising

That's because it's not tilted only on the axis you stretched it.
