I was brought up in Mill Hill in the 1950's and 60's. Baptised in St Pauls church and played in the ponds and Mill Hill park. There used to be a gas works at Mill Hill east near the start of Bittacy Hill near today's Waitrose. The village hasn't changed very much over the years as its a conservation area and subject to strict planning rules. My parents lived in the area before WW2 when it was still fairly rural. In the early 1970's I installed an Elliott 803 computer system in Mill Hill school donated by the company I worked for at the time.

Lived in Flower Lane from 1958 - 1974, and had a very happy time growing up there. The construction of the M1 & the subsequent demolition of the old red brick railway bridge over the Broadway brought a huge change to previously ‘sleepy’ Mill Hill, as did the demolition of the lovely Italianate Catholic Church & it’s replacement by an absolute monstrosity on the junction of Flower Lane & the Broadway.

I lived on Inglis Barracks 1978 -82 and would catch the 140 or 221 bus from Mill Hill East Station to Copthall School. We left when Dad came out of the Army. The barracks was blown up by the IRA shortly afterwards and no longer exists.
