Welcome to the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, a shopping, dining and entertainment area that will transport you straight back to the wild west of late 1800s Texas. The Stockyards are one of Texas’ most popular tourist destinations, and today we’ll check out all this unique district has to offer visitors, doing a full tour of the area, and stopping of course to watch the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive. The Forth Worth Union Stockyards opened in 1890, and this area remained an important part of the cattle industry up until the 1950s. In 1976 it was listed on the national register of historic places, and today the Stockyards still celebrate that rich cattle industry tradition, featuring more than a hundred shopping, dining and entertainment venues, all embracing an authentic old western motif.
