The American company Boeing has once again introduced an innovative weapon prototype that could change the perception of naval battles and future wars. Engineers at the corporation decided to combine the lightweight Mark 84 torpedoes and the AGM-84 SLAM-ER cruise missiles. The result of this was the creation of high-altitude anti-submarine weaponry, or HAAWC.

The US Air Force wanted to expand the combat capabilities of its aircraft, particularly the anti-submarine P-8 Poseidon, in order to protect them from entering enemy air defense zones and to make them more effective. Air Force leadership also desired a cheaper and more mass-produced means of destroying enemy targets. Considering previous experience in creating hybrid weaponry, designers also decided to combine the best characteristics of existing armaments. Thus, they drew inspiration from the lightweight Mark 54 torpedoes, tactical AGM-84 SLAM-ER cruise missiles, and precision-guided JDAM bombs. Similar to how the emergence of torpedoes changed the course hundreds of years ago.
