About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

Never considered making wreaths. That would save a lot of space in my herb and spice cabinet. Lol! Also never knew about waiting til the last 15 minutes to add the herbs. Makes sense though! So thanks for that!

I have been using the car drying method for herbs for a couple of decades, but I have never told anyone except my family (who thinks I'm nuts!) because I have never heard of anyone else doing it. I have always seen everyone doing the hanging herbs thing, but with the number I dry, I would need a tobacco barn to do that. Instead of using the bags, though, I use cardboard boxes, as they stack better than bags and are less likely to get crushed when you toss in the random ax or chainsaw! I always have about 20 boxes in the car at any one time and rotate them out when they are ready to process. I use herbs for cooking, medicinal, soap making, etc, and also for sale. Just don't get pulled over with a ton of dried green stuff in your vehicle. Thanks for the validation. I can finally come out of the closet!

This was fantastic! Thank you for sharing this Doug and Stacy (and Jim). I have tried drying herbs in paper bags before but had issues with them getting mold/mildew due to the humidity, so I can't wait to try putting them in Kip's truck to help dry them more quickly. And the herb wreaths look so fun to make. We don't have ice either, but I wonder if cold pressed tea would still work with cold water. Thanks again! Blessings from the Smyth family.

Wonderful tips! I also like to add fresh spearmint to a decanter of crisp white wine. I've used the brown paper bag method in the kitchen. You have inspired me to try making the wreath, as I love soups. Thank you!

I have done the paperbag before but never in my car! What a great air freshener!!! Those wreaths are so cute...great idea for gifts. As for the peppermint water, I do it all the time and it is very refreshing...tip, if you don't have ice it will still work with cool water just takes a few more minutes.

I used the same method to make Honeysuckle wreaths for Son's 3rd grade class many, many years ago! I never thought about spice wreaths! What a wonderful idea! Jim's books are on my wishlist! Great video! Bee blessed Danny and Rita in TN on Rooster Ridge
