The Umbanda, is a Afro-Brazilian religion with hundreds of thousands of followers.

The Umbanda religion is little understood in the West, where the idea that the dead can influence the existence of the living is rejected.
In Rio de Janeiro alone, there are more than 170 temples, some so large they even contain sports fields.
They carry out important social work among the poorest of the population.
Trances are an essential aspect of Umbanda sessions; negative energy is removed by means of a "holy friend".
Umbanda ceremonies are based on contact with the Orixás, the gods they mean to reach with the help of ancestors acting as mediators.
Healing spirits enter the head to uncover internal ills through a "third eye" in the center of the forehead. Sometimes they reincarnate in another body.

This reminds me of the Kali Mandir where there are some devotees that go into trances and helps other devotees at the temple with problems that they’re having. It’s very interesting how similar they are. I’d love to visit an Umbanda temple.

Absolutely fascinating! I kept feeling a relationship to The Voodoo religion while watching and listening. But, I am so frustrated because even though I've been somewhat north of that region....I am ashamed to say that I'm totally unfamiliar with this 'religious name':(  Perhaps there is another name, but I am anxious to research this "Umbanda Religion" (it's origins, it's founder(s), it's history in general. WTG Planet Doc,  and thank you for presenting this here,
