The Public Life of Women: A Feminist Memory Project by NayanTara at Drik Gallery

In September 2023, Nepal Picture Library published the photobook The Public Life of Women: A Feminist Memory Project, which was originally curated as an exhibition, is a testimony to the archival and artifactual orientation of feminism at large in Nepal. It showcases selections from this archive. Put together from contributions made by over 150 individuals and organisations, this photobook flashes instances from the past to present publicness itself as a key feminist strategy in Nepal.

On International Women’s Day 2024, a conversation between curators Diwas Raja Kc (joined online) and NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati took place as part Drik Gallery Talk, in which they engaged in fundamental questions of public memory and feminist histories.
