The Layla album is a masterpiece and Thorn Tree was the perfect way to end it ...

Thorn Tree completes the album in a counter point way; The other songs are like a rousing party and then Thorn Tree is after the party when it’s just you & guitar reflecting in quiet corner.

Just a flood of memories and a few tears every time I hear this. What a treat to see Bobby play and sing it

Very cool to see Bobby play and tell stories about the recording sessions. Glad that Eric and Bobby found each other—seems like that’s what Eric needed after Cream, and Bobby was a big contributor to the musical chemistry and mojo. Thanks again, Coco and Bobby!

I've played this song for ALL of my grandchildren while rocking them to sleep over the years. Now, one is a teenager and she still loves this song. She recently started singing it herself to her baby brother.
Thank you for this most amazing gift.
It transcends all time and generations.

I remember the first time I heard Thorn Tree in the Garden I was blown away. I knew that it wasn't Clapton but the musicianship was top notch. It is honestly up there as one of the best recorded moments in history. It moves be almost as much as Tears in Heaven which has an unfair advantage because of the real-world tragic backdrop. Clapton himself knows that was the best group of musicians he ever played with.

Oh my God, how wonderful to hear Bobby sing this song again. Years ago when Layla came out, my friend and I used to marvel at what a great singer Bobby was and what an incredible song this is. We didn't even know who he was before this record. I feel like if he had never done anything else in his life other than this one song, he would be remembered for it. An absolutely heart wrenching performance and a great way to end a fantastic album. Thank you for this.

I've been fascinated with the Layla album for a few months now, it's simply a beautiful work of art, from beginning to end, and every time I get to the end, i'm left speechless by this last track. I just can't think of a better way to end one of the best albums ever. Thanks for your work Bobby!

That's cool...I've heard Glen Campbell talk about when he found out about capos, he said it changed his playing....lol, he loved capos. And Glen was awesome. I love going back thru these songs, man. Thanks Bobby 🎸

When I was a little kid the neighborhood I lived in had this abandoned, rotting house in it. It was one of those houses that had become so derelict that a forest had grown around it. We used to go there to play and my dad would also go there to pull siding off the house to border his vegetable gardens. We once made it into the back of the place where there was this rusted out old wind mill, and there were these three thorn trees growing there. They were tall and covered with spikes and really nasty and evil looking. Every time I hear this song I think of that although I do know the thorn tree in the song is a metaphor.

This song is one of my all time favorites. I don’t think there is a person alive who hasn’t cried upon hearing it. My musical aim is to glean from the beautiful work you have done. I’ve wondered for years how to play it and it’s nice that you gracious explained it. You’re vocals are so amazing and heart wrenching! Derek and the Dominoes will forever be one of my all time favorite bands and your work is mostly because of that. Thank you! I hope to one day see you perform live and meet you. Best wishes!

Thanks for all these interviews Coco. It’s clear you understand the importance of documenting this man’s work. Bobby, I am so thrilled you are sober (FOB here) and still have your distinctive and beautiful southern voice.
Thanks for the Thorn Tree lesson and ALL your music - both of you! ❤

This one holds a special place in my heart some years ago I was driving through an area in my hometown where I once took my date out in the late 80s. I was playing Layla, and then thorn tree came on right in the area where we used to sit and look at the stars.
