Descartes Meditation V: Of the essence of material things, and again, of God, that He exists.

Join George and John as they discuss and debate different Philosophical ideas. Today they are carrying on with Descartes Meditaitons on First Philosophy and looking into the 5th Meditation.
In this video the two will look at how Descartes is now pondering the existence of a material world. At first Descartes doubted all his knowledge, doubted everything learnt through the senses and as such the existence of a material world. But now Descartes begins to consider the possibility that a Physical world maybe in fact exist. In addition to this, as Descartes is thinking about the Physical world He believes he has found further evidence for the existence of God.

What if there is a society that is historically excluded, be it intentionally or geographically, and have no concept of a god. What if you could go back in time before the invention of the god. There wouldn't be the idea of a god so there is no god excluding the presence of yourself. Or do you bring about this god because your arbitrary concept of a god exist in your mind and therefore in the presence of this culture of atheist, for lack of a better word. Seems the ontology is relative.

Hello, thank you so much for this series of videos. I'd like to know, according to this video, why the very concepts of a triangle came from outside of Descartes' mind (around 3:14) and therefore he had to learn them (around 3:07), while at the same time these clear and distinct ideas were as a result innate ideas (around 3:52). Thank you.
