How To Play HMS Iron Duke In World Of Warships

The HMS Iron Duke is the T5 powerhouse that is very capable at both T5 and T7 matches. She has good armor while angled and good gun angles while boasting good AP and HE. The heal isn't too bad and the ships maneuverability is ok. In fact the only thing the ship is really lacking in is durability under focus fire but that is a problem common to all RNBB's. Overall, if you are looking at keeping a T5 tech tree ship, this would be the one I'd recommend!

Tier 7 French Cruiser made the mistake of running broadside to mine the other day, 3 cits, devastating strike and took her out in 1 full broadside salvo to her.... As Jingles would say: "That's a paddlin'."

Fun fact: she never had a single funnel layout, she also never had the 152 mm of the 102 mm guns they gave her in the game. The 152 mm ones are the same ones Warspite has, which Iron Duke never got. The 102 mm guns she has are the same type of guns used for HMS Belfast’s secondary guns, only in a different mount. The guns were only used in the XIX mountings aboard QEs HMS Barham, Malaya and Warspite, HMS Hood, and the Revenge-class. Her anti-aircraft guns were none she actually had. The quadruple Vickers MGs were the ones that were mounted on Valiant and same with the Octuple 2-pounders. Whereas the quadruple Pom-Poms in Mk VII quadruple mounts were used first on the KGV class (at least for battleships)

I always enjoy the historical commentary you do for the various ship classes. For some reason I haven't had the same success with this ship that I've had with the Orion, though I've only played 8 or 9 battles in it so that's not much of a sample size. You are so right about the need to avoid being focus fired in this ship.

I always thought this ship was cool. I consider myself somewhat of Jutland historian/specialist, so I really enjoyed playing on this ship. All the ww1 ships are great, as far as the "cool factor" is concerned for me! Great video, very well done!

How to play iron duke:
1 spam HE at angled BB or even cruisers because low tier cruiser armour is crap and you can citadel furutakas.
2 don't bother switching to ap and don't show too much broadside

The Fiji was trying to secure the kill on the low health Shchors behind you first, which is the right move once he gets spotted before he can launch torpedoes. After that I'm assuming that he just wanted to get one last volley into you before he died, or maybe something noble like going for the reset in the hopes his teammates would overrun your base.

This is the ship I looked the most to get from a history standpoint which i got immediately thanks to the blue prints. Last year for the one hundred year after jutland, the bbc broadcasted an interesting documentary about that battle.

I watched a video on the Iron Duke that said to avoid getting close and stay at a further distance. Would you say that it's a more viable strat?

Good review. I think that it does better against t7's than the other battleships because it's HE is strong. Common theme there.
Of course it takes massive damage to any battleship tho I suspect it holds up well to cruisers with it's 8" of upper belt armor. Haven't tested that but it wouldn't surprise me if it was only vulnerable to superstructure hits from cruisers.

13.5 inch guns, they don't have a lot of punch, feels like it's a T4 ship.
