am greek and from nafplio(mother's side) too and do the same thing as you, most of the times, take the rubbish with me and throw them in more central places that I know garbage trucks are more frequent to be seen and pickup the trash. really good channel you have there and very good vibes. keep it up!

I lived in creta for 6 years.most of the tourists were leaving their garbage at the beach or just where they were sitting. No respect for the place they had holidays. Big shame.

I am a greek American and have attempted to live in Glyfada, where I was born. Trash is everywhere and nobody seems to notice or care. When I point it out my cousins shrug their shoulders and indicate that everywhere is like that. Step one would be to care

I lived in vouliagmeni (south of athens )for a number of years and took it upon myself to clean and pick up trash from trails and mountain viewpoints - it would be frustrating and locals would actually yell at me not to do it because it’s not your job”- even illegal dumping of construction debris just tossed behind bushes- I notice it would be lower educated locals / foreigners that would dump things and not to think anything of it -

Thank you for your honesty, once again, in showing the negatives along with the positives of Greece. My friends in Karpathos have the same complaint and write constantly to the Mayor, but … very little gets done to collect the garbage or keep bins clean. Writing from Geneva, Switzerland, where there is no comparison. The bins have liners and are kept quite proper and clean.

I’ll never forget many years ago vacationing at Loutraki I went for a swim only to be surrounded with filth. I later learned that the cruise ships were dumping their garbage into the sea. It completely ruined my vacation. I just hope that attitudes regarding the environment have improved.

I am Greek living in the US and without excusing what you are talking on the video I want to say that this is not only a Greek problem I see it here too. I see garbage along the highways even mattresses & appliances; during the pandemic domestic tourists trashed the beaches of the famous & beautiful Lake Tahoe in California and not only that but also National Parks. There are lazy and careless people unfortunatelly everywhere. Thanks for posting

Hi Daniel,
I have seen massive changes to attitudes with rubbish in Greece.
When I lived there at a young age I remember people would just throw their rubbish outside their car windows or just drop the litter on the street - this was the norm in the late 1970’s-1990’s! So glad that Greece has changed so many of these attitudes and is a progressive and beautiful country.
There is hope 🙏🏼
However one thing I have noticed more recently is that there are more and more shops ( especially the little local shops) using plastic bags again!! They are not the compostable bags/ paper bags you might get in the bigger super markets.
Please can you investigate this issue resurfacing in some of the smaller village shops. Problem is they do get into the sea and cause problems for the marine life. I still see too much plastic/ bottles/ bags on the amazing beaches round the area you are filming.
These things take time to change but really it is urgent to eliminate the use of plastic bags there.
Thanks for your great videos 😊

You are right, filth is unbearable. My neighbors throw garbage on the ground and leave their trash bags everywhere, and no one cares, it's a terrible lack of respect for nature and for others. I'm going to move out and leave them in their filth. I can't do anything else. (I live in Belgium)
