Valenki is a well-known "gypsy" dance song, which gained new popularity as a "Russian folk song" after Lydia Ruslanova included it in her repertoire in the 40s of the XX century. On one of the gramophone records, the performer of gypsy songs Nastya Polyakova is indicated as the author. There is a version that the song originated once in a gypsy camp and when the fashion for gypsy romances came to the secular musical society, the song about felt boots went beyond its subculture.
