Basic M1 was already impressive for video editing and code and I hope M1 Pro and Max would cover Apple graphic hole, so we can finally use new machines for 3D modeling, game dev and just playing AAA games

Actually both x86 (CISC) and ARM (RISC), CPU Architecture are both general purpose. The difference is between the amount of instructions needed to get a task done. What you are referring to is coprocesses which can be added to make specific type of tasks execute faster.

I'm too poor for a 16gig laptop. How about a 16gb desktop? Any reason not to use a desktop for at home work and use an 8gb laptop for the rare occasion I hit the road in pandemic land?

I've tested myself m1 and compared it with new and older processors: m1 i slower than any desktop processor, even 8 years old 4-core i7, and much slower than 6-core i5 and 8-core i7 (2020, 2021). It is a little faster than laptop processor i7-8650 and almost equal to new laprop processor from 2020. Tested on the same java programm calculating linked lists (adding, finding itd)

The real question is 14 inch m1 max or 16 inch m1 pro ? They come down to similar prices

Cool machines but as someone working on a mid 2014 MBP doing Java, C++, Web and Docker I don't feel like there is much to gain in terms of productivity as a normal Software Developer doing what 99% of Software Developers do 🤣

Hey, Stef, please can you make a video unboxing both 14" and 16" MacBook models and test out their battery life on CAD software like SOLIDWORKS or AutoCAD, Unreal Engine 5, (really powerful hungry power consumption software that uses a lot of battery), 1440p 60-144hz/4k60hz+, etc... Test out their battery life. I know that Apple said their battery life. But I want you to test their battery life in hardcore software that is power-hungry like Unreal Engine 5. I want to know if they at least innovate the "chemistry" of the battery even though Apple is stuck/capped at 99.99 watts for legal limits. yeah... AMD and Apple are kicking Intel's a**. Quite literally. Intel is way behind and cannot catch up with those two competitors. Now they need to innovate battery life because CPU and GPU are power-hungry consumption even though they are getting smaller over time. Also, I would like to know the maximum performance of the new 14" and 16" 2021 models for benchmarks.
