I do a lot of graphite and sketches and I always use a 2H pencil for my outlines on everything. It's light and doesn't really smudge, so I can ink over it for my watercolors or put colored pencil over them and they don't get all over everything else.

Ooh! I learned about this in art class!
Basically the lead in "H" pencils are made with more clay, making them harder and lighter.
Meanwhile "B" pencils are made with less clay an more graphite, making them softer and darker.

i'm self taught and never actually knew what the letters stood for. i always refer to them as hard and buff lol

I use a lighter pencil like a B to erase watercolor sketches easier and 2B-8B for figure drawing and still lives
