09:54 Where do these tools stand and which is our pick

Wanting to take advantage of Competitive Cyclist's deep catalog, we thought that a roundup of one of the most essential items would be a great start to show riders the different types of multi tools, what we like about certain mountain bike tools and what we don't.

While an advantage of carrying a multi tool on your mountain bike ride is pretty self-explanatory, knowing the most commonly used tools and necessary bits can make a difference when you really need to repair your bike on the trail.

In this roundup we've got everything from the lightweight minimalist setup to the full-blown MacGyver do-it-all multi tool. See which one we'll be packing most.

Been using the Wayside for years. Love the real hex wrenches with ball ends. Really alleviates frustration when you have an issue on the trail. The knife is a bonus.

I like the topeak mini 9 as it weighs in at 92g, has 2-8 mm and a t25. I really don't want to be carrying around anything more than I need. I don't work on my bike with my multi-tool I just fix things on the trail with it. I've adjusted brake calipers on the trail without problems. I have a full toolbox, bike stand, full size pump in my car most of the time. I haven't broken a chain in 3 years, but that's the only thing I think I could add to my kit.

I love the Crankbrother's multi-tool. I have the M17 and the M19. I don't ride w/o it.

The best tools are the ones you bring with you. Figure out what sizes your bike has the most bolts of and make sure the tool you have works. Look at your rear derailleur, makes sure you have that shimano or SRAM tool, they don’t use the same one.

The fold up Park Tool sets are made by Bondhus, you can buy the same exact tools through them for a bit cheaper.

I like the Topeak light kit with their chain tool added. I also will bring a Gerber multi tool on longer rides or places where help is not an option. You guys ever review first aide kits? Im a total trail dad.

My free multi tool that came with my bike broke so this video is well timed. Would like to see a review on the wolf tooth encase that one kind of got my attention but don’t see much about it

Check the Super T Handle Metric set, a compact new design that solves the rotational problem when torque is not needed (at Amazon).

Im aware this indicates "3 years ago" - but I am reasonably sure that even then, literally NO ONE said "Multeye-tool"

"Shoot, my caliper is so loose, it's close to falling off" Joe, do you have your mult-eye tool?"

I had the multi tool, but It didn't have chain pliers and my weak hands couldn't get the chain master link on by hand. Luckily someone else was prepared. cheers!

Informative but the video and audio quality made it difficult to watch. The video is pretty dark and the audio at 6:30 was much louder than the first half of the video. Thank you again for the information about the multi-tools available!

Wish Leatherman type multitool would make one for mtb, for everyday plyers and knife then all the wrenches for mtb

humble opinion - best multitool: victorinox with an additional 10mm socket. its the lighest yet the most usable which is a rare thing - because it has a proper allen key and you can even choose which bits you need for your bike. super easy to use too.

For me its the fix it sticks every time. There's always plenty of torque, length in tool, and choice. the kit can be expanded or knocked down per your needs for the ride or bike. Fix it sticks and forget it!
