I had hoped that both he and the Queen would get to 100, but he had a good life and was lucky to enjoy mostly good health. He was lucky that his brain didn't fail him as is usually the case with people of a high age. RIP.

Well, he lived a long, full life. And he was mobile, more or less, until close to the end. None of us get out of this alive. I always thought he looked rather distinguished. Very British.

what put his age into perspective for me was that he not just lived through WW2, but served his country and fought in it.

Met him once at a backstage introduction of Phantom of the opera at the Empire Liverpool. He wandered over to us in the tech section and said "So this is where all the real workers are then? I prefer chatting with you chap's."
