A fan video of "LOVELESS" poem, from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, recited by the English voice actor of Genesis Rhapsodos, Oliver Quinn. I just made this video to show my admiration for this game. I don't own the rights of this game. The rights of this game are of Square-Enix.

POEM:

Prologue:

When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end
The goddess descends from the sky
Wings of light and dark spread afar
She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting

Act I

Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess
We seek it thus, and take to the sky
Ripples form on the water's surface
The wandering soul knows no rest.

Act II

There is no hate, only joy
For you are beloved by the goddess
Hero of the dawn, Healer of worlds
Dreams of the morrow hath the shattered soul
Pride is lost
Wings stripped away, the end is nigh

Act III

My friend, do you fly away now?
To a world that abhors you and I?
All that awaits you is a somber morrow
No matter where the winds may blow
My friend, your desire
Is the bringer of life, the gift of the goddess
Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return

Act IV

My friend, the fates are cruel
There are no dreams, no honor remains
The arrow has left the bow of the goddess
My soul, corrupted by vengeance
Hath endured torment, to find the end of the journey
In my own salvation
And your eternal slumber
Legend shall speak
Of sacrifice at world's end
The wind sails over the water's surface
Quietly, but surely

Act V

Even if the morrow is barren of promises
Nothing shall forestall my return
To become the dew that quenches the land
To spare the sands, the seas, the skies
I offer thee this silent sacrifice

INTERPRETATION:

Prologue:

When the war of the beasts brings about the world's end
The goddess descends from the sky
Wings of light and dark spread afar
She guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting

Act I:

The infinite mystery
The gift of the goddess is what the three men seek
We are disquieted by our actions
But their fates are scattered by war

One becomes a hero, one wanders the land
And the last is taken prisoner

But the three are still bound by a solemn oath
To seek the answer, once again

Act II:

Though the prisoner escapes, he is gravely wounded
His life is saved, however
By a woman of the opposing nation

He begins a life of seclusion with her
Which seems to hold the promise of eternal bliss

But as happiness grows, so does guilt
Of not fulfilling the oath to his friends

Act III:

As the war sends the world hurtling towards destruction
The prisoner departs from his newfound love
And embarks on a new journey

He is guided by hope that the gift will bring bliss
And the oath he swore to his friends

Though no oath is shared between the lovers
In their hearts they know they will meet again

Act IV:

The prisoner meets the friend who wandered. The wanderer is dying and the world is ending. he is furious that the prisoner gave up on their quest to pursue love while he remains loveless. The wanderer knows that in order to end it one of them must die. And so he initiates a fight to the death. The prisoner is unable to kill his old friend, and allows himself to be killed.

Act V:

The prisoner's sacrifice was the gift of the goddess, and its realization saved the world. The prisoner never returned to his lover, rendering her LOVELESS, the namesake of the poem. She was not alone however for her lover died and saved the world, and she would have him as long as she lived in the world. And so the prisoner's sacrifice saved the world and his love.

P.S: I know this will be probably useless, but I gotta try:
"Square-Enix, please make a remake of Final Fantasy VII for Playstation 3. Thanks!"

They really chose a good voice for Genesis. He's such a good storyteller.

No matter how down I feel... the following quote restores my hope.

“Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return.”

I think this poem is actually a prophecy. Act I represents how the creator sees something in the river of time(search the words: "ripples", "water", "goddes"). Act II is about Sephiroth. The first three speak about his past and present, and the last three speak of his future. Act III is composed of two parts. The first one speaks of the inevitable outcome. The last part is Sephiroth's response to the threath, that he will return. In Act IV, Sephiroth has already fallen into madness(check the first five verses). The remaining verses of this act speak of Sephiroth being already defeated, and Zack's death approaching. The first two verses of the final act represents Sephiroth's promise, that he will return despite being dead. The last three verses speaks of Zack's sacrifice to save Cloud.
The three warriors are Sephiroth, Zack and Cloud. Sephiroth is the captured one, but he isn't a prisoner of madness. He is a prisoner of his humanity. Being "captured" by his humanity, Sephiroth couldn't fullfill his part of the prophecy. So Jenova comes into play and Sephiroth discovers he is not human, that he was lied to, so he vows revenge on humanity. The hero is Zack. He sacrifices himself for his friend Cloud. And Cloud is the wanderer. After Zack's death, Cloud is consumed by survivors guilt and he becomes a wanderer, as shown in the begining of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. In the same movie, Cloud(the wanderer) battles Sephiroth(the prisoner). They fought, but Sephiroth couldn't kill Cloud because he was his friend. This I say with proof. It was confirmed that Sephiroth didn't even fought seriously against Cloud. That goes to the conclussion that, in the end, Sephiroth regains a sliver of humanity.
And now you must ask yourselves what was Genesis's role in all this? He was the PROPHET. He was always reciting the poem. The divines of the world of Gaia set it in motion so that Genesis would be the prophet by setting in motion so that Genesis finds that book and becomes obsessed with it. And Angeal? He was someone that could prevent the prophecy from fullfilling, so he was removed from the equation.
What do you think? Leave a reply....

I like the fact that this is Angeal's hand that takes Zack to the skies at the end :') very beautiful ending for a wonderful video game

"Even if the morrow is barren of promises nothing shall forestall my return" My favorite quote
The Hero: Sephiroth, The Wanderer: Angeal, & the Prisoner: Genesis.

Oh, Genesis, why did you have to go? We will always love you, and you will always be a hero in our souls...

I swear I shed a tear when I heard Genesis' voice, so sad, it sounds like he lost all hope..

Came back here after hearing Genesis's voice in the remake version. This version is absolutely masterpiece. They don't need to change Genesis's English VA 😭

For me, Genesis is not a lame character. Yeah, he may be a d**k in this game, but when he was defeated by Zack and met Minerva when the game almost end (before Zack's death), I just feel sad for him. He is among the most tragic character in FF in my opinion.
