'Does Christianity Cause Wars?' by Mark Spence

Some skeptics say Christianity has caused more wars than anything else in history. They paint a picture of Christians as the most murderous group of people, and somehow this objection is supposed to discredit the claims of Christ and debunk the Bible in one single jab.

Now I certainly agree that man has used “religion” for political gain. But then again, sinful man has used everything under the sun for political gain. Just because a politician or a military leader uses the name of God to further his agenda, does not mean God approves.

In John 16, Jesus tells us that there will be some who will murder in the name of God. He says, “The hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.” John 16 goes on to say, “They will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor Me.”

These are not true Christians. The Bible explains that hypocrites and deceivers will always be in and around the Christian church until God punishes them on the Day of Judgment. Jesus told His followers to love their enemies. So if a man puts a knife into someone’s back in the name of Christianity, something obviously isn’t right. Let’s not forget that the Bible tells us all murderers, including those who have had murderous thoughts in their hearts, will not make it to Heaven. Following the teachings of the Bible will not lead you to start a war.

In fact, it’s the Bible that teaches us to be at peace with all men.

It’s very powerful to combine religion and politics. If humans believe the lies politicians tell, then the politicians have ultimate control.

I only know that I used to despise Christianity and not want anything to do with it because I thought that Roman Catholicism was Christianity. After learning that it is NOT and that the Roman religion is actually responsible for many many Christian martyrs, Today, I understand how people would shy away from Christianity because they confuse modern new age occult groups (like Joel Osteen etc.) which claim to be Christian for the real teaching of Jesus.

Thanks for posting this video. Atheists will, naturally, try to discredit, demean and decry Christianity, but we are encouraged by the Scriptures to live peacably, as we try to serve as examples of loving neighborliness.

Yes! Hitler, was a roman catholic. I just love that DarkMatter2525, quote. The quote is just pointing out that saying Hitler, was just pretending to be a Christian, isn’t making Christianity, look any better.

There is a book that goes into a little more detail about some of the things I was saying: Why Violence Has Declined by Steven Pinker. It won’t kill you to read it. Even if you disagree with Steven Pinker, you’ll still find it educational. On a similar note I’m planning on reading at least one of Ray Comfort’s books to better understand his opinions. See its win, win :)

I have met very few christians. The sermon on the mount is at direct odds with how this nation and US culture conducts business.
I would say that most ppl who call themselves Christian are not, but they do take bits and pieces of the bible to justify wars, greed and hate. They are not christians.
Jesus laid it out clear and simple in the sermon on the mount, its not meant to be suggestions but how to be a practicing Christian.
Live by the sermon and make choices by it.

Oh, nice! Totally gotta share on facebook. I've had friends tell me that kind of thing too, and I just didn't know WHAT I could say, only knew I could show them how JESUS would have treated them.

Response-2. On the subject of people in the 20th Century being stoned to death I don’t get it? Are you saying I’m more likely to be stoned to death in the modern day? If so there is just no hope for you. On the subject of people being hacked to death could you please elaborate its incredibly vague.

Actually, Hitler claimed to be a Christian. Whether he was one privately is still up for debate. And those atheist regimes you mentioned operated just like religions. The reason Mao and Stalin, et cetera don't want their countrymen to be religious is because they themselves want to be worshipped as gods. So the religious structure is still there. Certainly there have been wars that were not caused by religion, but religion almost always plays a part in wars b/c it is such a powerful motivator.

Don't forget, truth biblical Christianity has never caused a war, since Jesus taught us only to love and pray for our enemies (that doesn't mean that believer cannot sin or defend his life and family). The Crusades and Inquisition, everyone's excuse for hating Christianity, were NOT Christian. You can thank the Pope and his false anti-Christ Religion for all of that. Read the King James Bible, it has not been tainted by the pope & other non-believers. You will see what true Christianity is.

I know that’s obvious but a lot of people don’t even know there is a reply button.

I have a question about military service, does war justify killing someone for to "Protect" your country? I'm a new believer and am out of high school so I don't know what to do with my life.

And the word of God (the true Bible) will never be destroyed, but Satan will do everything in is power to try. That is why there are so many false "bibles" being used today; and that is why, so many so-called Christians out there are not true believers and in their unbelief and lack of relationship with the LORD, they throw other off away from the truth.

They may not be true christians but some do truly believe that what they are doing is right based on their religions. Peope (most people) have a deep seeded moral fiber. That is what keeps them well behaved, not some words in a book. I never read the bible until about three years ago. Yet I knew for twenty three years what was good and bad. These morals will be intilled in us regardless of religion.

Quote: To say "an atheist has never killed a single person, ever, ever, in world history" is a falsity. I don’t see how being an atheist would make murder impossible….

My guess is that you did not watche the video, since the poster argued just as you do that it is NOT Christianity which causes any wars. He mentioned several of the Biblical passages which tell us that God wants us to live in peace with all men (Matt. 24 & Rom. 12). As you say, it is Atheists who try to decry and demean Christianity, as this video was pointing out.

The storey of how America, came to be what it is today is quite brutal. There was that business with the Native Americans, then the slavery of the Africans, and then the American Civil War.

Hitler stated time and again in "his book, " Mein Kampf, that he believed he was doing the Lord's work. He wrote in Vol. 1 Ch.2: "I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator." Google search "Hitler Mein Kampf God" for more. And I agree that many wars are started for non-religious reasons. I never suggested otherwise. My claim was that religion--if it is not the reason for a war--often plays a part b/c it is "a powerful motivator."
