I have some old 1980's Icom's & Kenwood's that are just full of components, RF tins, large transistors, etc. When I look at these newer almost all surface mount radios I'm always blown away by how far we've come to do so much more with so much less.🙂

Excellent little radio so far, have had one since December last year and it's been a *lot* of fun, works really nicely.

I've got the "Anytone" version of this, Fantastic radio!

That's awesome!! It appears to be the model that can be reconfigured with the Chirp Software. Allowing for expansion and parallel connectivity with some SDR hardware and software. They certainly send you you some sweet tech.

Surface mount components changed everything. A radio like that in the 90s would have been full of large components

I've got the Anytone in my little MX5 with a mag mount. Very clear audio for it's size ( I can hear the speaker with the top down).

it can be "unblocked" in a few seconds and changed from the US version to the EU version .. it's a good radio. I had her for a year 😊

There does seem to be some variance in these Retevis radio's, I have the RT-95 myself, and on high power into my dummy load it shows almost 33w output, its near 20w on mid and low tops the scale at 7.5w. I am NOT using the quality of test gear you are, but across 3 digital SWR meter's, there is less than .5w difference in the figures, so I have to assume they are close enough to accurate. As long as the output signal is still clean, I guess the rest is a bonus.

In another video you asked for suggestions for circuit boards. Maybe two boards in one. A simple transmitter with a push button and a simple receiver with an LED. Each operating from a coin cell. Snap the boards apart and separate them. Then push the button and the LED lights up. Just a thought.

Is this radio just the same as the Anytone at-778uv? No difference at all?

144-146 MHz would not be sufficient for the US band plan. Sounds like an EU version
