‘During winter time, during spring time, Russia managed to build up and fortify the areas controlled by Russian forces. And of course it takes more time.’

Kateryna Malofieieva, Ukraine-based freelance journalist, says that the current state of her country’s counteroffensive ‘is what it is’.

Ukraine fights at the speed that the western drip feed allows.
Only 15% of the mine clearing equipment promised actually arrived.
We have ourselves to blame for spiralling food prices
because we failed to provide adequate air defence for the crucial port of Odessa.

We are expecting the Ukrainians carry out the counter offensive with no real air support and certainly not dominance. Which goes against NATO doctrine. I am surprised they've made the gains they have.

The so called counter offensive is actually extremely pragmatic and successful. Ukraine is doing to russia exactly the thing putin hoped it will work in his favor. Ukraine is much better positioned for the attrition war. It is building up capacity day after day and russia is closer to a total collapse on all fronts at once - political, economic, military. I don't think there will be a rapid breakthrough with hundreds of kilometers liberated in a single day. All russian forces are directly positioned at the front line, the "formidable" defenses deeper in the occupied territories are vast empty spaces with occasional mine fields and that will become evident once Ukraine obliterates the first line of defense, which also happens to be the last.

Russia has laid a minefield the size of Florida. It will take time to get through that especially with zero air support. "Slow pace" is another way of saying "We could have started training pilots on the F-16 a year ago instead of dicking around trying not to offend the terrorist nation of Russia." But yeah, complain about the pace.

Ukraine are fighting the smart fight. They learn and adapt and if that means it takes longer to achieve the objectives than so be it. If nato and allies give ukraine all the kit they ask for in a timely manner then they will get the job done faster. Maybe we should get amazon involved with deliveries, they probably would get ukraine the necessary weapons faster.

Mine clearing equipment requires air defense and air support.

Look. As long as russia isnt gaining any kind of progress, then Ukraine is by definition on the offensive.
- It will not be a single event counteroffensive. Who TF came up with that idea in the first place?

The big mistake was letting up on the last counteroffensive over the winter. As I repeatedly said then, this would give the Orcs time to consolidate, dig in, and resupply, which is exactly what happened.

West is whining about it takes time to offensive to advance. We are this for decades. Russia is North Korea times 100 and we have to deal it. Just put factories pumping ammo.

Only way to speed it up would be to send everything they need on time, instead of this absurd drip feeding of aid.

Ukraine is fighting a counter offensive on extremely difficult terms, w/ artillery inferiority, almost w/o air power. NATO would never do it without the air component, but Ukraine has no choise. Under circumstances Ukraine is doing remarkably well, even making small yet very important advances, though trading advance for conserving men and equipment, while annihalating russian artillery, ammo depots and supply lines. So far Ukraine is doing very fine. 🔱🌻Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!💙💛
