The most important bit, fares are capped in Melbourne at $10.60 per day and our regional public transport is also part of the myki network.
Meaning you could travel all around Melbourne and the state of Victoria (within 24 hours) and only pay $10.60

You do need to touch off on trams if you're only travelling within zone 2. Although to be fair there aren't many situations where a tourist would need to do that. Good video either way!

Fun fact: if your in a suburban area most train stations don’t have fancy myki readers so you can just not tap on(still illegal but i never got caught)

Thanks. I'm travelling to Melbourne next week. Are the trams any good? I live in Bendigo is my myki card still going to work? I've mostly used it for the buses here

If you’re travelling from a free tram zone into a paid tram zone, when do you tap on/off?

It’s so inconvenient because there aren’t that many top up machines, you used to be able to buy a ticket from bus driver but not anymore which is annoying

Sydney wins again. You can you public transport in Sydney with anything. Credit cards, debit cards, opal, Apple Pay, Google pay and you can even buy from the bus driver. 😉
