Zero-torque putters like the L.A.B DF3 and PXG Allan are creating buzz and cult followings among pros and recreational golfers alike. But what makes Zero-Torque putters special, and just how similar do these two putters work?

Today, Mikey is in the studio to test if PXG Allan is truly torque free like the L.A.B. DF3. Could you simply choose between the DF3 and the Allan or is there more to match up with stroke than is advertised?

Have a chuckle perspective: As a 72 year old, 16 handicap golfer my primary criteria in a putter is that the back architecture allows to easily scoop up the ball off the green thus eliminating the necessity to bend over to pick it up.

People that wonder why putters with low to no torque putters are so beneficial should watch this video. Everyone understands what “expanding” the sweet spot in a driver does for shot consistency, reducing torque in a putter is basically the same.

I have been playing the PXG Allan for several months and my putting has really improved. My Arccos stats prove that putting is now the strongest part of my game. My putting handicap is 4 lower than my actual index.

Cannot wait to order a custom-fit LAB DF3 in a couple of weeks! Bought the base model DF3 (going to sell it after) and I'm absolutely a believer

Exactly the comparison I was looking for; as a PXG fan for most of my bag and a Mezz Max putter owner, love the fair and balanced comparison.

The science behind these putters is fascinating. Good video.

Ian, your point about gripping the putter changes the zero torque characteristic is spot on. The ? is whether the zero torque style nonetheless more comfortably promotes a square face at impact better than other styles. What I got out of this video is that a putter fitting adds more value than I thought due to the increased amount of data available.

All I know is I have like 8 putters and I practice with all of them. I rank them on my shelf left to right, most to least favorite, and my two LABs (mezz max and link) occupy spots 1a and 1b. Nothing is more stable and repeatable in terms of hitting my start line. I did just order an odyssey square to square jailbird for fun, but I can't imagine it dethrones the labs.

I was at PXG in Scottsdale last week and tested their Allan putter, which is extremely nice. I'm a taller player, too, but I chose the Evnroll ER2 38" Tour. Love the length and thr brudge between blade and mallet. Test an Evnroll tour 38

DF3 - Broomstick - Pink head - Upgraded TPT shaft = $1, 038. That is one expensive putter! Good luck to you Ian and Mikey as you move on from CC, I hope we can all keep up with you on your other social media platforms!!

I have the Mezzi and it has transformed my putting but it’s still possible to manipulate the face and get it all wrong. It took a while to trust the pendulum, particularly on longer putts. Worth the money for sure.

A selection of 'zero torque' putters are hitting the market in an attempt to capture LABs momentum, this was timely and eye opening. Please consider testing the Bettinardi Antidote SB2, thank you!

could you do a review of a counterbalanced DF3 (vs maybe a load of other counterbalanced putters like thr Allan, Jailbird, spider...and whatever else you can think of) as there's currently zero decent counterbalanced comparison videos on YouTube.

Thx in advance, love your content, easily the best club reviews on YT

Df3 20% off during Black Friday from lab… I’ll be the first one to make the purchase this year when the discount goes live. ❤

I'd really like to see a comparison between these and a more traditional putter with a less skilled, higher handicap, player. That would better showcase the low/zero torque technology and more accurately compare them for us mere mortals to see if it is actually beneficial or just a feel thing. Thanks for the great video as this was the exact comparison I've been looking for.

I want one or the other! I just prefer the PXG Allan’s looks!

Have you guys done an analysis of the Odyssey Square to Square Jailbird putter?

I'm a good putter. But the USGA has banned my approach to putting. Specifically, using a stand-up putter to look at the line behind the putter. (You can use the stand-up putter, but you can't use it the way it was designed to be used.) That caused me to go looking for a replacement. I settled on the Allan. It is, by far, the most accurate putter I've ever hit. I loved the Happy Putter for its incredible flexibility (lie, loft, weighting, etc.). And I truly loved the Craz-E, still the best rolling putter ever.

I've been using center-shafted putters for three decades, so I knew I needed a similar replacement. While the Allan isn't exactly that, it sets up that way, looks that way, and performs that way. Because I have a (mostly) square-to-square front-to-back stroke (hence, the center shaft), the Allan has fit the bill nicely. I'm putting better than ever, even though I've lost the ability to read the line from behind. Highly recommended.
