Deep Dive Discussion:

a) What is business as usual? The key characteristics of the prevailing system
b) Look back. How did we get here? What values, cultures, laws, events led to this
c) Why do we believe it is not fit for purpose and it’s failing? Give examples. And how fast do we want to see it decline? Because a collapse is rarely beneficial.
d) Is there anything valuable about the old system that we would want to retain rather than lose? Such as its infrastructure.
e) What is the future we want to bring about? Its keys characteristics? What would it look and feel like to be there?
f) What are seeds of that future visible in the present? Give specific examples.
g) And looking back, whose work are these present possibilities built upon? What history, values and culture are embedded within them.
h) How could they be scaled and spread? Give examples of actors who are already working on this.
i) What are competing visions of the future being pursued by others? Could we collaborate with them because we share enough co-elements or are theirs inheriting competing visions? If so, how do we prevent their vision from derailing ours?
j) What is being disrupted? Think of many different kind of factors: technological, political, cultural, ecological, economic, social disruptions.
k) What are the roots of those disruptions? And for each one identified: what would it look like for it to be captured in H2- or harnessed H2+? What could be done strategically to ensure that it is harnessed? Give examples of disruptions that you believe have been captured and others that have been harnessed and in each case: Why did it happen? What made that possible?
l) If you are a disruptive actor - whether a social movement, a tech innovator, or a new form of finance - what kind of guidance can you set to yourself to help influence whether your disruption its captured to extend the life of H1 or harness to bring about H3? What allies would you seek? What action would you take? How do you access potential offers for collaboration or finance? And how would you work with others to ensure that H2+ disruption scales and spreads?

The best explanation and examples I've seen so far about the framework. Thank you.

What happened to K ? That seems to have been missed out in the final explanation.

Brilliant simple breakdown of how to "harness" innovative ideas, technology and systems to contribute to developing effective mainstream alternative systems. The approach is simple but comprehensive (including making conscious the deeper factors - history etc behind our current thinking ). As such, it clarifies the distinction in impact that innovations can have: from being simply "captured" by the prevailing dominant systems (currently on a course of widening disparities - social, financial - and their environmental consequence), or being used to create positive evolving solutions.

much appreciate the detailed explanations! (the sound is slightly dull even I set it to the loudest)

Great video, Kate! We will be taking this with us and might be able to do a round on it in our own local Rethinking Economics group. Keep doing what you doing, we follow your work with great interest.

...and then we are trying to get more of your ways of thinking like a 21st century economist on our curriculum.

I think I need simplifaction. Wouldn't it be better to create modifiable criteria, just to start? I mean some modifiable criteria that could support people placing innovation into the H2+ framework and to recognize the H2- and even applying these criteria to transform an H2- into an H2+. With these too many questions, it can be used only in very socially advanced contexts. Just a proposal.

Who is here because this is mentioned in the Hubspot Inbound Academy?

Not sure why this video assumes without question that communism is the only likely or desirable future economic model. Obviously its makers didn't consider that disruptive or any other kind of innovations don't happen with that economic system.
